By Muhammad. M. Idris Ph.D. Presidential ticket is brewing The APC is expected to zone the Presidential ticket to the South West. The contenders are Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Kayode Fayemi. Asiwaju believes that his legendary war chest and his hold on the party in Lagos and that of his friend Ganduje in Kano would be the key. In the worst case he could wangle 2 million votes in primaries from Lagos whether any one votes or not and another 4 million from Kano by hook or crook. But his major worry is his former protege and now popular Vice President who many consider cerebral, ready for the job and capable of advancing Buhari’s legacy. Tinubu does not appear to have any solid criticism of Osinbajo. However, his associates have been trying out a story that being a pastor he would favour Christians only. And that being a member of the Redeemed Church, he would favour only members of his church. They put out stories that his staff were mostly pastors or Christians. That was refuted by one of his Muslim aides who pointed out that his most senior appointees are actually Muslims, including the VP's own Chief of Staff. As for Fayemi, he believes that he would have the support of strong people around the President especially Mamman Daura, about whom he tells his associates has promised him support. He also hopes to leverage on his position as Chair of the governors forum. His handlers also believe that if Bola Tinubu and Yemi Osinbajo eliminate each other he would be the beneficiary and would be presented at the appropriate time as the compromise candidate. As for Yemi Osinbajo, he doesn’t seem to have a political structure, neither does he have the cash that a run will entail. He also seems to have annoyed many people around the President especially by sacking the former DG-SSS Lawal Daura, while he was Acting President. Many also fear that he might be stricter than his boss. Fayemi on the other hand is not really popular, and has not shown an outstanding performance as governor. And by the way, he will be out of office by June next year in which case he might not be in a position to leverage the office of Governor. Tinubu has political friends but is also not popular. He is widely regarded as extremely corrupt, compared often to Atiku. But the worst thing is that he has been canvassing for a Muslim-Muslim ticket. The only formula that can put him on the ticket. The party knows that such a ticket would be disastrous. I think most people agree that what would tilt the scale is who President Buhari supports . And the old man seems to be keeping that close to his chest. If he says nothing as he usually does, it means that he is saying that the ticket should go to the highest bidder, this is what direct primaries may come down to. But the outcome he gets may neither please him nor enhance the electoral chances of his party. And if he lets the PDP succeed him, he should kiss a peaceful retirement good bye. Something tells me Bubu won't let that happen!

Osinbajo remains the best and most qualified among the three. He is not ambitious and can't fight dirty going by the murky waters of the Nigerian political space, but when the time comes Nigerians will decide. |

The history of presidential elections in Nigeria goes beyond being rich, cerebral or having huge political war chest. Its about who has a national appeal, loyalty to the political class is key..... who was Yar Adua and Jonathan before 2011 and where was Obj... beware of political underdog |

Solomon Dalung 66. Naja'atu Mohammed 67. Buba Galadima 68. Oba of lagos, Oba Akiolu 69. Shehu Sanni 70. Desmond Eliott 71. Femi Kuti These people and the entire RCCG actually believed that Buhari had what it takes to lead Nigeria into a first world. These people went to school. Many are professors. Some claimed to have direct access to God. Some are gifted with "prophesies". They read history. They understood international relations. They understood how societies work or so we thought. They were more than 20 years old in 1983 when Buhari shot himself to power. They saw Buhari murder innocent Nigerians in 1983. They saw Buhari destroy the economy in 1983. They saw the role Buhari played in Abacha's government. They read all the threats of violence by Buhari against the nation. They saw Buhari harass Lam Adesina the Oyo State Governor due to Fulani herdsmen conflicts with locals in Oyo State. They saw Buhari lead the sharia protest that claimed the lives of innocent Nigerians in 2001. They saw Buhari and his minions open the gate of hell on innocent Nigerians when he lost the presidential election in 2011. If Buhari was not speaking and defending his Fulani heritage he would be fighting to defend his religious heritage. Never for once did he defend Nigeria or gave interview on how to rebuild the economy, education, power, health, etc. They saw everything this man did. They knew him too well to miss the little details of his violent life. But they were united in hatred. Hatred for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. One among the few Nigeria leaders that actually wanted Nigeria to work. Hatred became a unifying force to push forward a false narrative. They exploited his humility. They exploited his kindness. They exploited his humanity They danced and made merry in Ojota. They ate, drank and danced away the destiny of a nation. Saints Tinubu, Amaechi, Fashola etc led the chorus against ‘corrupt’ Goodluck Jonathan. Tinubu a private jet owner and owner of Lagos, Amaechi a private jet owner and funder of Buhari campaign, Atiku a University owner paid with his civil service allowance etc wanted ‘corrupt’ Goodluck Jonathan out. But the people did not see the moral paradox because you see - hate is a unifying factor. They mobilised thugs to stone a sitting President. They harassed his family wherever they went. Because they are from the hated minority who must NOT be king. For Kings must come from the Fulani lineage. Jonathan is Ijaw. Ijaws should not be Kings. Jonathan must not loot also. For looters must come from enablers of evil. These are intellectuals. Amongst whom are Pastors and Prophets. Wisdom failed. Prophesies failed. WAEC issued a fake WAEC attestation to Buhari. It is possible many Nigerian "intellectuals" are working with fake certificates. A nation without conscience is a curse to its people. We all are standing on the podium of history. Humanity beckons. Surely our children will read the roles we played in the salvation or annihilation of humanity. - Ibrahim Tanko |
