PSC promotes six police commissioners, two AIGs, 7,207 others

The Police Service Commission has approved the promotion of two Assistant Inspectors-General of Police to the next rank of Deputy Inspectors-General.

The commission also approved the promotion of six Commissioners of Police to Assistant Inspectors-General of Police and the elevation of 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners of Police.

This was contained in a press statement by the commission’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, titled, ‘PSC promotes 2AIGs to DIGs, 6 CPs to AIGs, 17 DCPs to CPs, 24 ACPs to DCPs, confirms 7,166 ASP11 to ASP1’, on Tuesday.

Among the promoted Deputy Commissioners of Police is Fidelis Ogarebe, the former Chief Security Officer to Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

Also, husband and wife who joined the police the same day, Kehinde Longe and Yetunde Longe were among those who were promoted to Commissioners of Police.

It noted that the decisions were taken at PSC 13th Plenary Meeting which held in Abuja on Monday, December 20 and Tuesday, December 21, 2021 before adjourning to January 2022 to continue with further deliberations.

Part of the statement read, “The Commission also approved the promotion of 24 Assistant Commissioners of Police to the next rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police; 49 Chief Superintendents of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioners.

“It also endorsed the elevation of 74 Superintendents of Police to Chief Superintendents and eight hundred and sixty six Deputy Superintendents of Police to Superintendents.

“It also during the meeting approved the confirmation of 7,166 ASP11 to ASP1 and considered 24 promotion appeals relating to adjustment in promotion dates, seniority etc.

“The two AIG’s promoted to DIGs are AIG Zaki M. Ahmed and AIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo. While AIG Zaki was promoted to cover the vacant duty post that was created as a result of the retirement of DIG Tijjani Baba who retired on October 6th, 2021, AIG Kokumo will be filling the gap left by DIG David Oyebanji Folawiyo who retired on 21st November 2021.

“Commissioners of Police Buba Sanusi, CP, Katsina State;, Ndatsu Aliyu Mohammed, CP Anti Fraud, Force Headquarters Abuja; Bello Sani Dalijan, CP INEC; Sahabo Abubakar Yahaya, CP Yobe State; Akingbola Olatunji, CP Benue State and Hakeem Odumosun, CP Lagos State whose appeal for adjustment of promotion date was approved were promoted Assistant Inspector’s General of Police.

“The 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police promoted to Commissioners of Police after an interactive session with the Commission are; Josephine Nneka Anyasinti; Rhoda Adetutu Olofu, Godwin Aghaulor; Effiom Emmanuel DCA, Zone 5 Benin City; Stanley Kanayo chukwu Ude; Charles Ifeatu Mozie; Tajudeen Olakunle Bakare; Longe Kehinde Patrick; Samuel Olukayode Emmanuel; Faleye Olaleye; Yetunde Longe; Haruna Gabriel Garba; Tajudeen Akinwale Abass; Rex Dundun; Ambrose Sunny Onah, DC A&F Kwara State; Durosinmi A. Olatoye and Ndu Innocent Anene.

“The 24 promoted Deputy Commissioners of Police include – Hope Urunwa Okafor; Ajo Geofrey Orue; Olufunke Adeayo Ogunbode; Stephen Olubunmi Ogedengbe, ACP SWAT, FCID Annex Lagos; Yabode Oluwatoyin Agbminoja; Ojo Adekimi; Adebowale Lawal;; Yemi John Oyeniyi; Obasi Mary Okereke; Moses Ashu Ottah; Felix Akineme NNebue; Sunday Adeolu Oke; Gazali Alade Abdul-S; Salam; Fidelis Ndubuisi Ogarebe, former CSO to Enugu State Governor and AC State CID, Enugu State Command; Alamu Muyideen Obe; Olubode Ojajuni; Sheikh Mohammed Danko AC SEB, FCIID, Lagos; Simon Asamber Lough; Abiola Reuben Olutunde; Charles Ezekwesiri Dike; Victor Avwerosuo Erivwode; Nnanna Oji Ama; Michael Adegoroye Falade and Yakubu Useni Dankaro.”

AIGs to DIGs

AIG Zaki Ahmed, holds a Master of Science in Law Enforcement & Criminal Justice and a BSc in Sociology from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) and Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto (UDUS) respectively.

In the course of his career, AIG Ahmed has held several strategic positions in the past.

"These include: Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Operations, Rivers State Police Command; Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations (DCOPS), Delta State Police Command; Commandant, Police Detective College, Enugu; Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Police Command; Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police Command (March 2017- January 2019); Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Police Command; AIG Zone 6 (Cross-River, Akwa Ibom) Calabar; AIG Police Special Unit (July-date)

Ahmed was promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police in October 2019. Born February 02, 1962 CP Ahmed hails from Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet ASP on the 15th of March, 1988.

He is due for retirement on February 02, 2022.


AIG Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, mni, holds a Master of Science degree in Criminology and a BSc in Sociology from the University of Maiduguri and University of Lagos respectively.

He is a member of the Senior Executive Course 41/2019 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and a member of The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).

In the course of his career, AIG Kokumo has also attended Mobile Police Squadron Commanders Retreat Workshop on Human Rights Trafficking and Forensic Science and held several strategic positions in the past.

"These include: Operations officer at the Lagos State Command, during the reign of terror of a notorious armed robber, Sina Rambo; Assistant Commissioner of Police Federal SARS; Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) General Investigation Section of Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Dept; DCP Operations, Lagos State Command; DCP Operations, Anambra State Police Command; Commissioner of Police (CP), Force Armament Section, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja."

He was elevated Commissioner of Police on January 01, 2017 and deployed to the Edo State Police Command between October 23, 2017 and January 2, 2019, then later CP, Osun State Police Command; and was redeployed back to Edo in June 2020.

AIG Kokumo was later promoted Assistant Inspector-General of Police in December 2020, in-charge of Federal Operations at the Force Headquarters, Abuja and was deployed to Zone 2 (Lagos & Ogun) in June this year.

He was promoted Acting Deputy Inspector-General of Police and re-assigned to the Research and Planning Department in November 2021.

AIG Kokumo (born June 11, 1963) hails from Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 15th of March, 1988.

He is due for retirement on March 15, 2023.

CP Buba Sanusi, psc holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Administration from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU).

In the course of his career, CP Sanusi has attended many courses within and outside the country among which were Intermediate Command Course, Senior Command Course, Operational Management Course, Organized Strategic Leadership Course – United Nations (UN). He is also a member of International Association of Police Chiefs; and held several strategic positions in the past.

CP Sanusi was promoted Commissioner of Police on the 16th of January, 2019. Born February 12, 1963, he hails from Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 03rd of March, 1990.

He is due for retirement on February 12, 2023.

CP Ndatsu Aliyu Mohammed, psc holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the Bayero University, Kano.

In the course of his career, CP Ndatsu Aliyu held several strategic positions in the past.

"These include: Deputy Commissioner, Federal Operations and the pioneer Disaster Management Officer at Force Headquarters, Abuja; Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command; Commissioner of Police, Airport Command MMIA; Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command; Commissioner of Police, Anti-Fraud Unit FCID, Abuja.

CP Ndatsu was promoted Commissioner of Police on the 16th of January, 2019. Born September 18, 1962, he hails from the Kwali Area Council of the FCT and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 03rd of March, 1990.

He is due for retirement on September 18, 2022.

CP Sahabo Abubakar Yahaya holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Law from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; and obtained his LLB at the Nigerian Law School, VI, Lagos.

In the course of his career, CP Ndatsu Aliyu held several strategic positions in the past.

"These include: Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operation (DC OPS), Kaduna State Command; DCP, Department of Finance and Admin, Kogi State Command; DCP, Department of Finance and Admin (DCDFA) Plateau State Command; DCP, Criminal and investigation Department (DCCID) Rivers State; DCP, Legal Department FHQ Abuja; Commissioner of Police (CP), Community Policing Unit, FHQ, Abuja; CP, Yobe State Command (2019-date).

He was part of the Nigeria contingents to the United Nation Mission in Liberia from 2006 to 2007 and served as the Senior Police adviser to the Somalian Police Force from 2013 to 2014 under the auspices of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM)”.

CP Yahaya was promoted Commissioner of Police on the 16th of January, 2019. Born September 15, 1965, he hails from Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 18th of May, 1992.

He is due for retirement on September 15, 2025.

CP Akingbola Olatunji, psc(+) mnim fsi holds Master of Science degrees in Political Science and another in Peace and Security Studies, as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science.

CP Olatunji is a Fellow, Institute of Security Studies, Member Nigerian Institute of Management and Associate Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Practitioners, and held several strategic positions in the past.

"These include: Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Field studies, Staff College, Jos; ACP, Federal SARS Force CIID, Abuja; ACP, Federal SARS Force CIID Annex, Lagos; Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Administration, Force CIID, Abuja; DCP Administration, Ogun State Police Command; DCP Operations, Benue State Command; DCP International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) Force CIID Annex, Lagos, Commandant Detective College, Enugu; CP, Quarter Master General FHQ Abuja; CP, Benue State Command.

CP Olatunji was promoted Commissioner of Police on the 15th of June, 2019. Born November 16, 1963, he hails from Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 15th of March 1988.

He is due for retirement on March 15, 2023.

CP Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Bachelor of Law and Master Degrees in Peace Studies & Conflict Resolution from the National Open University of Nigeria, and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Lagos State University.

CP Odumosu is a Fellow, Institute of Corporate Administration; Fellow of International Institute of Professional Security, member of International Association of Chiefs of Police and a member of Institute of Public Administration; he also held several strategic positions in the past.

"These include: Commander, RRS, Lagos State Police Command; Area Commander, Akwanga Area Command, Nasarawa; Assistant Commissioner OF Police (ACP) Operations,Western Ports Authority Police Command, Lagos; Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Federal Operations (FEDOPS), FHQ Abuja; DCP, Finance and Administration, FHQ, Abuja;Commissioner of Police (CP), Department of Research & Planning, FHQ, Abuja; CP (Inspectorate): Training and Development, FHQ, Abuja; CP, Edo State Command; CP, Finance & Admin FHQ, Abuja; CP, Lagos State Police Command.

Born 25th of January, 1962, CP Odumosu hails from Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area of Ogun State and enlisted into the Police Force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on the 3rd of March 1990.

He is due for retirement on January 25, 2022.

There seems to be some balance this time. The nepotism that oozes with the military is apparently less here, obviously because the recruitment process (from employment) for this group was not skewed.

Check the latest recruitments and behold the skew in favour of a particular part. Then subsequently wen they ruse thru the ranks and yet promotion, the already skewed imbalance is what results.

It's long been established in the military. So a few years down the line we have begun seeing more of officers from that region, ditto their corruption. |

Nobody from the southeast and south south was promoted from aig to dig or from cp to aig. Buhari continue dividing the nation and downlifting the people, not a single Igbo man is a member of the national security council under Buhari.
