Nobody wants to be treated like Ghali Umar Na'abba, let alone these stooges planted in the NA. It is not difficult, take away the Direct Primaries, and return the Bill to the President if there is nothing sinister from them as well.

The process is over. The best they'll do in January of they mean well is to expunge the offensive parts. I doubt that will happen though. I suspect the bill will keep oscillating till "it's too late to sign" a la 2018.

Getting the required number to override the president will be a big challenge. I will advice they remove the controversial direct primary provision and send the bill back to the president.

This electoral bill is the most popular bill among Nigerians because it will make political party members able to chose those who will represent their parties. As usual, is rejected by governors who rule as kings in their states.
If members of the National Assembly fail to override the veto, they should consider their political future dead because the Governors have already marked them dead.

What would you think the situation will look like if they grabbed the bull by the horns and override the president today? Do you think it will ease the pressure on the Reps or increase it?
Public opinion will certainly have been on their side and the Reps would have been boxed into a corner. The downside will be they will lose heavily if the Reps refuse to toe same line. But the House is usually known to be more radical and that's why Femi sidestepped debating it at all this year.

This is the right thing to do if all parties are sincere. Direct primaries though good is not the silver bullet to our political problems. What stops political parties from setting ridiculously high ticket entry prices for those wishing to contest any of its positions thereby excluding a lot of people? Let us focus on the key area of that bill which is electronic transmission.

Just expunge the direct primaries section from the bill and represent for assent. Anything else is running around in circles.
