When you want to criticise, you should take care to ensure that your criticism at least makes sense. How can people say that people don't go out on Christmas and New Year's day? Does that even make sense?

So people don't go to church, to the beach, attend concerts, to the parks, visit relatives and friends and other such activities on Christmas and New Year's day?

Isn't that wonderful?

Your task shouldn't just be to post anything negative, but it should at least make sense!

Fun Seekers Besiege Recreation Centres In Lagos

3rd January, 2012

Hundreds of fun seekers have continued to troop to recreation centres in Lagos as part of New Year celebrations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that revelers, including children, were on Monday at the Bar Beach, amusement parks and National Theatre to spend the public holiday declared by the Federal Government.

At the Amusement Park, Apapa, more than 3,000 children and their parents massed at the park.

Some of the picnickers told NAN that they decided to visit the centres with their families in spite of the hike in the pump price of fuel to relax.

A retired teacher, Mrs. Ann Ebo, however, said the facilities did not meet international standard.

The venue should be beautified with flowers and it should also be kept clean. The money we paid for the facilities is too high; it should be reduced for more patronage.

A businessman, Mr. Emmanuel Ejiofor, described the outing as rewarding, saying: it is the only time one can take ones family out.

Mr. Olawunmi Sowale, the public relations officer of the park, said patronage by fun seekers had increased compared to last years.

Patronage has not reduced; in fact, it has increased in spite of security situation in the country.

At the Bar Beach, the situation was not different as some of the fun seekers blocked parts of the Ahmadu Bello Way with their vehicles, forcing many people to trek long distances to get to the beach.

Mrs. Friday Egbon, a banker, said: New Year holiday comes once and it is a time to relax with ones family.

Yet they say that people don't go out during the holidays.

Boxing Day: Fun seekers throng parks, beaches in Lagos

December 27, 2016

By Our Reporter

Lagos—Some tourist parks and beaches in Lagos yesterday recorded a large turnout of fun seekers marking the Boxing Day celebration.

Federal Government had declared yesterday and today as Public holidays.

Some of the fun seekers, who spoke in separate interviews in Lagos, said they had always looked forward to public holidays like this for them to catch fun.

A visit to some parks and beaches around the city, revealed that they were filled with fun seekers.

A fun seeker, Miss Tolefe Okonji, said she took advantage of the holiday to have a good time at the Freedom Park due to her usual busy schedule.

“Freedom park is an environment I have been looking forward to visit and I am happy that I finally made it to the place due to the public holiday.

“I rarely have time to have fun due to the nature of my job, so I use holidays like this to relax and catch fun,” she said.

Okonji expressed satisfaction with this year’s long holiday, adding that it gave her the opportunity to hang out with friends and family.

A banker, Miss Jenifer Nwosu, said that due to her nature of work, she took advantage of the day to have fun. “Due to the nature of my job, I always use public holidays to come to places I have not been to. So, coming down to Amusement park is more of an adventure to me.

“I am having fun here and I am very impressed with what I am seeing, “ Nwosu said.

A soft drink seller in Oshodi Heritage Park, Mrs Tinuade Adepegba, expressed optimism that the business would be profitable this time.

“So far, I have not sold much but am very sure that I will still make money because fun seekers are still coming and I am going to be here all day,“ Adepegba said.

She said that she made reasonable profit on Christmas Day, adding that she was hopeful she would make the same today.

Mr Lanre Aladesanmi, who came to Elegushi Beach with his wife, said he always looked forward to public holidays in order to visit beaches to catch some fun. “I always look forward to days like this because I use them to have memorable outing with my loved ones. “I love to visit beaches, most especially Elegushi beach, because of the serene environment.

“It is a well organised beach with lovely facilities and fun activities surrounding it, “ Aladesanmi said.

A seller of roasted meat (suya) at Arhakab Beach, Malam Ibrahim Danyaro, said he had made up to N15,000 and still expecting to make more sales before the close of the day.

“With a large turnout of people here, I still expect to make more sales because there is still time. “The influx of people here today is good for my business, “ Danyaro said.

Beer parlour operators decry poor patronage

Meantime a trip to some beer parlours in Lagos, revealed that their operators recorded poor patronage this Yuletide. It was observed that the number of people, who usually relaxed and socialise at some bars and joints in the evenings, reduced drastically at Yuletide.

Mrs Chioma Nwanze, a beer parlour owner, lamented the drop in the number of customers this festive period due to the parlous state of the economy.

“Many of us are no longer making it because there is no money in town, yet the prices of beer from brewers keep on increasing.

“Soon, many of us may have to return to our villages because of poor records of sales in Lagos.”

Now to the issue of reduced services during the holidays.
Re: Lagos State Government Declares Free BRT Service On Christmas, New Year's Day by naptu2: 6:40pm On Dec 24, 2021
The bus services are run by human beings. The bus drivers, conductors, ticketers and other officials also deserve to have holidays and to spend the period with their families. That's why, all over the world, transport operators usually provide reduced services during the Christmas and New Year period, so that these officials can also have some time off during the holiday.

For example, London:

Christmas travel: Are London Underground services and buses running over the holidays?

Reduced services on public transport to and around London will run over the Christmas holiday period as travellers are warned to plan ahead.

Central London will see its usual influx of commuters for the Christmas and News Year’s festivities but with restricted travel options across the city.

Normal Covid travel rules will still apply including mandatory face masks on all public transport and in indoor public spaces, unless exempt.

Is public transport running over Christmas?

On Christmas day there is no public transport available across London. There are no night buses on Christmas Eve as public transport slows to a stop from early evening.

Reduced service of buses, trams, London Underground and London Overground trains will follow on Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year’s Day (January 1). As Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on Saturday and Sunday in 2021 there will be additional bank holidays on Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December with fewer options for travel.

TfL networks are also offering no free travel on New Year’s Eve.

What Tube lines will be affected?

All TfL and London Underground lines will be closed on Christmas Day.

On Sunday December 26 there is part closure of the Metropolitan, Jubilee and Piccadilly lines with bus replacement services available. Planned engineering works and service disruptions will also be found across the Piccadilly line affecting travel to and from Heathrow Airport.

After 9.45pm on Christmas Eve (December 24), there will be no service on any London Overground route. Reduced services will follow until the new year.

TfL Rail has early closure on Christmas Eve and no service on Christmas Day. From Sunday, December 26 to to Tuesday, December 28 there will be reduced services.

What alternative transport can I use?

On Christmas Day options are limited to walking, taxis, coaches, Dial-a-Ride for registered members, Santander bikes and electric scooter renter trials in some London Boroughs.

Taxis and private hire services may cost more on Christmas and Boxing Day and have extended waits.

TfL Rail will run night trains on New Year’s Eve available between Liverpool Street and Shenfield, and Paddington and Hayes & Harlington/Reading.

Airport transfer services will run on Boxing Day, such as the Stansted Express still running but no Heathrow Express Services running on Christmas Day and Boxing Day in 2021. Replacement coaches for the Piccadilly line will also be available to and from Hammersmith.

Driving your own car is always an option and on Christmas Day congestion and ULEZ charges do not apply. LEZ applies all year round (including Christmas Day).

To those saying that they should provide free services during the work week, are you actually suggesting that they should provide free services during peak period??

Maybe they should just make the entire service free in perpetuity. They should never ever collect any transport fares, rather they should make the service free forever. That makes sense, right?
