The dead of 28 migrants washed up on Libya's western shore after their boat sank, according to a security official, the latest tragedy on the world's worst migration route.

According to the source, "Libyan Red Crescent teams retrieved 28 bodies of dead migrants and found three survivors at two separate locations on the beaches of al-Alous," which is about 90 kilometers (55 miles) south of Tripoli.

He went on to say that "the advanced stage of deterioration of the bones shows the shipwreck occurred some days ago," and that the death toll could rise in the coming hours.
