South-west Pdp To Reclaim House's Speakership Position by Babasessy(m): 12:43am On Jun 16, 2011
The last may not have been heard about the loss of the Speaker ship position of the House of Representatives by the South-West zone as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the zone has petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan and the leadership of the party, demanding that the number four position be returned to it.

The Secretary of the party in Oyo State, Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi, who made the disclosure yesterday while speaking with reporters in Ibadan, the state capital, said there is no going back on the zoning arraignment within the party. Akanbi said the election of Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, as the Speaker is not acceptable to the PDP in the South-West zone and it is a decision that would not stand the test of time. According to him, the PDP chairmen and secretaries in the states in the South-West had submitted a petition to the Presidency through the Vice President, Namadi Sambo and the National Secretariat of the party in Abuja, calling for the review of the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

He decried the relegation of the South-West zone in the sharing of topmost positions in the country, vowing that the zone would not fold its arms and be sidelined and relegated in the affairs of the country, adding that discipline must be maintained among the members of the party. The Oyo State PDP scribe said: “The number four position in the country was zoned to the South- West and we are ready to reclaim that which belongs to us. We all worked for the party to win at the federal level and we should be a partaker of the sharing formula”.

Akanbi, while maintaining that the party stands united in the zone, lambasted some of those he described as self-acclaimed PDP leaders in the zone, who worked against the party in the last general elections. He said they were agents of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) as they pumped money into the ACN during the elections. He said such people should be challenged to bring the results of the last elections in their wards and local governments before they could be regarded as true party members that could dislodge the former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as the leader of the party in the entire zone.

Specifically, he alleged that the former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin, worked against candidates of PDP in the zone. He, however, revealed that their anti-party activities have been reported at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja, adding that they have been recommended for appropriate sanctions. The party scribe, however, said the party remained resolute in its resolve to forge ahead, stating that the party will not die in the zone.

On the alleged withdrawal of N3bn five days before the exit of former Governor Adebayo Alao- Akala, he warned against unfounded rumour, noting that the ACN administration in the state should always check their figures before raising the alarm. He explained that the PDP government would have paid the N18, 000 minimum wage to the state civil servants, insisting that the Otunba Adebayo Alao- Akala led administration left enough money in the treasury that could cater for the salaries of workers in the state and for other projects, enjoining the ACN not to play politics with the minimum wage.

That's laughable. For one, even if PDP wanted, they couldnt do anything because they weren't the only parties that voted against the SW getting Speakership. The choice was made democratically.
