The process of sacking an employee in a government office is a difficult one. At least 3 queries plus panel constituted to review your case.

The salary difference and prospects looked very enticing, I didn't make provision for Covid-19 because we never envisaged it and I didn't even have side hussle, my employer didn't even consider the sacrifice I made before putting me under redundancy

They don't sack and if they do, it is rare, you must have done something really bad for them to sack you.

The security is constant salary and promotion.

The security ends when you retire, many retirees are still struggling to get their pension.

According to Public service rule, a dismissed officer will lose his gratuity and pensionable years. To be honest, I don’t know how they enforce the pension part under the current pension law but the gratuity will never be paid.

The pension is guaranteed under the pension reform act 2004 as the contribution is in a personal retirement savings account domiciled with a PFA

I work in a Teaching hospital we work like hell on earth. Nah ministries dey enjoy.

The security aspect simply means the pensionable aspect and the long procedure it takes to sack offenders, that's if it will ever result in sack it's usually a demotion or suspension in most cases.

That is why this country remain underdeveloped

What it simply means is that there is security of tenure.

It's a herculean task for a civil servants to get dismissed or better still, have his appointment terminated.

The stages for such (if due to contravention of public service rules or its kind) is not immediate as you find it in private coys where it is as easy as typing a letter of termination.

That's why you hardly see such cases in the FG employment.

You nailed it here bro. I am paramilitary in the aviation sector. I must admit it not easy. One can put on 12 to 15hours esp when you having manpower shortage. Our work is really strenous. Our counterpart in other countries enjoy higher pays than us. However I thank God for giving me the Job.

i worked as a casual for one year in NNPC. Most of the workers there are less performing. Although they always show up for work but they do nothing. Well is hard to believe nnpc could dismiss a staff... Unless the man himself is either a contract staff and not a member of PENGASSAN or NUPENG

I worked with him and he was my colleague. He became a shadow of himself after that. I mentioned it because I know him and worked with him and also saw him after.
On your second point, it depends also on where you work. There are a lot of hardworking and competent people there.

I know that my dad is a lecturer I hate that Job with passion now

Government jobs have some form of security.. yes.
For example.. you get paid as when due.
Your salary increases as your grade level does
Acceptable working hours from 8-4
Etc.
Now.. unlike private company or one man business that can hire/fire on a whim, govt work has process when firing..
They can't just wake up and sack unless you've committed a serious offense. Even at that. A PMB will be set up to investigate before termination of appointment is recommended.. even at that... It's still not sure until the CEO of the state appends his/her signature

FG needs to downsize workers but can't because they are playing politics. The process to sack FG worker is not as easy as private sector. Look at Abba Kyari... many FG workers supposed to be sacked or if they were in private sector would have long been sacked but with FG job na retirement or resignation or death dey remove ppl from FG work
