Hardly breaking news, but then loyalty is priceless. Reminds me of our soldiers from the 60's, planning needless coup up and down.

its high time they do the needful. we cant continue like this
The last time nzeogwu and co did the needful what happened? It's best soldiers stay out of democracy. Until us bloody civilians wise up, we'd still be going round in circles.

Their loyalty should be to the citizens and constitution guiding the country. But, this Nigeria where quota system is everything, those that are promoted knows fully well its not by merit rather by ethnic and religion affiliation hence this rubbish pledge. Doomed obodo

the president is the commander in chief of the armed forces... He gets his power from the constitution after winning elections so stop following an emotional San who have thrown his senses to the dogs...

Army should not swear allegiance to any president. They are there for Nigerians only. What if a President is a mad man? Swearing an oath of loyalty to a mad man first before your people or the constitution is suicide. In the US the armed forces are independent and can refuse orders from the President if it puts the constitution and people at risk!

They are rather pledging loyalty to the politicians of Nigeria. And this is the reason Nigeria Army have become just like the Nigeria Police, and if care is not taken, they will become Hisbah or Amotekun.

Corrupt politicians Politics have eaten deep into the military... How could you explain that ordinary bloody uncircumcised bandits will go into Nigeria Defence Academy, kill and kidnap officers, thereafter collect ransom without being caught ?

How could it be impossible for almighty Nigeria Army to crush bandits for years?

Shame Shame Shame Shame
spewing trash as Usual. who are the Politicians?? who controls Nigeria?? The military does. and for your Information, Islamic Terrorist fights a gorilla warfare. they fight a kind of hide and seek game that it is difficult to tell their numbers nor even crush them out completely. they are not Fendi Loving or timberland loving Ipob Terrorist. No show off.. They don't bark, they bite. ask USA for more Information.

Re: Army Generals Pledge Loyalty To The Constitution Of Nigeria by NemoDatQuod(m): 3:30pm On Dec 31, 2021
So they are Mr Buhari's private army funded by the citizens of Nigeria. They will also be the private army of any new President while Nigerians foot the bill. Is it too much to ask for Nigerians to task their representatives in Congress to change this allegiance to the President by legislation, if the constitution actually does arrogate loyalty to the President? if that's not the case, why are these military guys swearing allegiance to the President?

At work, you get promoted ONLY when you have not just achieved set objectives, but have exceeded expectations. Nigeria has been a war zone all through Mr Buhari's tenure with the military lacking not just the technical skills but the strategic capability to bring Nigeria out of the several mini and major internal wars going on in different locations in that country . Yet these military guys are being promoted. In a sane country, no one would have been promoted since Mr Buhari came into office. In fact, salaries ought to have been ducked regualrly for the spectacular incompetence and failure of leadership exhibited by these individuals. Better still, they should have been stripped of rank and fired from the Armed Forces. The beauty of understanding Nigeria's problems is that it does not require research. Just observe the shameless and unabashed actions of it's people(like this shameless promotion exercise and allegiance to a president) and the root causes of it's problems become so very clear.
