Despite condemnations over the years, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) continue to pledge loyalty to the sitting President.

There was another instance on Thursday during the decoration of newly promoted senior officers of the Nigerian Army (NA).

Minister of Defence, retired Major General Bashir Magashi told them to discharge their duties professionally.

He spoke at the Army Officers’ Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, as some Brigadier Generals became Major Generals; a number of Colonels moved up to the Brigadier General rank.

Magashi described their elevation as recognition of diligence and sacrifices individually and collectively to the military.

The minister assured that the government will continue to support the Army by acquiring additional hardware for operations across the country.

Army spokesman, Brig Gen Onyema Nwachukwu said Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya charged the Generals “to remain loyal to the President and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.

Yahaya reminded them of the current security challenges and urged them to remain focused in their effort to ensure peace and security.

According to Nwachukwu’s statement, Maj Gen Chijioke Onwunle, on behalf of the officers, “reaffirmed their unalloyed loyalty to the President, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and the constitution”.

In May, Robert Clarke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), suggested that the military should control the government temporarily and restructure Nigeria.

Reacting, the Defence Headquarters dismissed the advice to take power from President Muhammadu Buhari.

Gen Nwachukwu, then Director of Defence Information, said the military “shall remain apolitical, subordinate to the civil authority, firmly loyal to the Commander-in-Chief, President Buhari and the constitution”.

They are rather pledging loyalty to the politicians of Nigeria. And this is the reason Nigeria Army have become just like the Nigeria Police, and if care is not taken, they will become Hisbah or Amotekun.

Corrupt politicians Politics have eaten deep into the military... How could you explain that ordinary bloody uncircumcised bandits will go into Nigeria Defence Academy, kill and kidnap officers, thereafter collect ransom without being caught ?

How could it be impossible for almighty Nigeria Army to crush bandits for years?

Shame Shame Shame Shame

NA COMMUNITY(BOTH THE REIRED AND SERVING) IS IN-CHARGE OF NIGERIA NOT POLITICIANS.undecidedNEX REP OF ARMY IN NAIJA PRESIDNCY IS BEING SHOPPED FOR.THIS TIME AROUND IT WIL BE A CIVILIAN FOR 4YEARS,THEN ANODA RETIRED GENERAL TAKES OVER AGAIN.
ARMY IS A CODE,NO TRIBE OR RELIGIOUS SENTINMENT ALLOWED.THAT IS WHY THE 1966COUP WAS A FRAUD THEY MADE TO LOOK LIKE TRIBAL.E.G. WHY DID THEY THOSE SO-CALLED BIAFRA RANK AND FILE COLLECT BACK THEIR OLD RANKS IN NAIJA ARMY,AFTER MISLEADING MILLIONS OF IGBOS TO THEIR SLAUGHTER? THEY WENT BACK TO ACCEPT THOSE RANKS WITHOUT SACRIFICING FOR THOSE THEY USED AS GUINEA PIGS?

BESIDES WAR IN AFRICA AND MIDEAST IS A FRAUDULENT MANCHANDIZE CONCOCTED BY ELITE POLITICIANS AND MILITARY RANK AND FILE FOR THEIR SELFISH AGENDA.NA ONLY SENSELESS YOUNG MEN DEY DIE WHILE OLD MEN DEY ENJOY. undecided

Re: Army Generals Pledge Loyalty To The Constitution Of Nigeria by nonxo007(m): 10:55am On Dec 31, 2021
True, the loyalty of any army worldwide is to the constitution and not to the people or persons. The constitution is what makes and guides a country and its people. Sadly our constitution is a constitution by the same military and does not in any way have the people at heart. We need a change of constitution or revert to the 1963 constitution.

no, Saying the the president Muhammadu Buhari is very wrong.

It's supposed to be the president GCFR & the Constitution.
The army leadership should not let personal loyalty cloud thier duty to Nigeria which takes care of them

Why won't they loyal when they are the one that made it, and favour them. No single Nigeria constitutions favour masses. Greedy set of people.
