President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that the detained self-proclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will account for his actions given the way he insulted his administration from abroad.

He, however, did not rule out political solution to the matter, saying that it will depend on if Kanu behaves himself as he was not ready to interfere with the duties of the judiciary.

Buhari said these during an exclusive interview with Channels Television on Wednesday night while speaking on a myriad of issues affecting the country.

When reminded that some Igbo elders had requested for the release of the secessionist agitator, he said he would not interfere with the judiciary as Kanu will have the opportunity to defend himself.

He said: “There is one institution that I wouldn’t dare interfere with. That’s the judiciary. Kanu’s case is with the judiciary.

“But what I wonder is when Kanu was simply in Europe, abusing this administration and mentioning too many things, I never thought really he wanted to voluntarily come and defend himself on the accusations he has.

“So, we’re giving him an opportunity to defend himself in our system and not to be abusing us from Europe as if he was not a Nigerian. Let him come here with us and then criticise us here in Nigeria, let him be listened to.

“But people are saying he should be released, no, we cannot release him.”

When asked if there’s no possibility of a political solution, he added: “No, there is possibility of political solution. If they behave themselves, all well and good. But you can’t go to a foreign country and keep on sending incorrect economic and security problems against your country and thinking you never have to account for what you have been doing.

“Let him account for what he has been doing.”

Buhari has thrown the copy of Kanu's cell key into Lagoon cos he doesn't trust the DSS.

The master key which is with Buhari is only used whenever Kanu is having court Case.

Btw, the chieftaincy title's date would soon be announced.. Kanu, Oni DSS of DSS prison

The elders that went to beg Buhari to free Kanu should be ashamed.

The southern leaders that always run to Abuja to report and sing praises to Buhari should know that the man don't love them.

90 percent of the loans are used to develop North, 7 percent for south west and remaining 3 percent for south south while south east had nothing. The South west and south south are happy as long nothing goes to the Easterners

Kanu should have remembered that line of nothing last forever before he started insulting everyone on his radio station and social media

Classic PMB cheesy

It amuses me to see that some people thought the terrorist Kanu would not account for all his insults and instigation of killings of Nigerian security agents and other innocent Nigerians while he was in the UK? Really?

The one that takes the cake is that these same people expect that the terrorist would be unconditionally released from his cage after we picked him up from Kenya - after tolerating his provocation for so long - with so much surgical precision that ICOB "intelligence" had no idea he had been captured for 8 days. Lol keep dreaming as it would be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle before that happens.

Did they think Ojukwu was a fool for seeking pardon and campaigning for Shagari after wasting millions of his people and fleeing to Ivory Coast in a similar agitation 50+ years ago? Those that fail to learn from the experiences of their forefathers are bound to repeat the same mistakes. Lamidi Kanu will be wiser in choosing his opponents next time if he ever survives this.

Lol ! Says unity begging Yoruba Muslims...... You should worried more about the forgotten Sunday Igboho, your supposed Freedom fighter that's being incarcerated in Benin prison..... As for Kanu, he wasn't expected to be released by your Jihadist government, cos he can't give up his famous request for secession..... And Like every genue freedom fighters acrossed the globe who have undergoes jailed terms and came out Truimphed, he'll definitely come out Truimphed with Biafran flag his hand, no matter long it takes

Buhari's regime will soon come to an end. He won't hold his dictatorship powers for much longer .

But what I know is that Nnamdi Kanu is a perfect example of a genuine freedom fighter. Some of his tactics might not seem smart but it will be in the long run.

Bear in mind that Nelson Mandela was put in jail but he was still able to make an impact after being released 20 something years later.

These are the prices that have to be paid for the struggle

Buhari should point out one of the statement uttered by Nnamdi Kanu that has not come through!

Nnamdi Kanu is just a prisoner of conscience!

The only thing Buhari has against Nnamdi Kanu is that he was abusing him! If stating the obvious is termed as abuses then so be it!

You kidnapped him to give him the opportunity to defend all he has been saying yet injustice marred your trial!

Was Nnamdi Kanu not right about you afterall

You went all the way to Kenya to kidnapp a man, 8 months later, you are yet to open your case against him

Instead they employ BMC members (with shallow brains) to insult the Man and his ideologies. Invariably, the Fulani herdsmen menace MNK talked about is ravaging the Nation, but to Yoruba people who are bearing the brunt of these invaders, their problem is Nnamdi Kanu.

I tuned in to a Radio station, and those castigating Nnamdi Kanu the Most are Yoruba. Is this not Madness

Never seen such hate from a people towards other peoples..ideology. It was these same Yoruba that chased Ghana people from Nigeria, in a bid to occupy the educational system in Nigeria. Since then standards have fallen Badly.

The case is already in court.

He should change his legal team and make Robert Clarke (SAN) and/or Wole Olanipekun (SAN) his lead counsel.

Neither Buhari nor Kanu is Yoruba, why bringing Yorubas into this topic sir?

The Shagari Government evicted ALL undocumented immigrants , majority of whom in the South were Ghanians and Tauregs in the North , how does this involve Yorubas?

Are the Yorubas in charge of education in Delta, Taraba, Imo, Enugu and Ebonyi?

Nnamdi Kanu based his agitations on preaching hatred against other Nigerians especially the Hausa-Fulani and the Yorubas through vitriotic broadcast on Radio Biafra.

It's natural that those who feel offended by such hate filled broadcast will want Kanu to undergo trial and be punished if found guilty.
