Interesting question. Literally, he was killed by the beverage, however his murder was initiated is his friend. Moreover, if he wouldn't turn over to look at the woman, he would probably would notice that his friend throw some pills into his beverage. I guess if we look at the biological side of this question, then as I said he was killed by a pill/beverage. Objectively he was killed either because of his friend or his inattentiveness. I believe that such tasks develop logic and non-standard thinking. Anyway, if you don't want to face such situation, you would better be attentive not only to people around you, but also to your friends.
