The idea that University of Portharcourt is on the top 20 list in Africa is laughable. I can guarantee that no Nigerian university is on the top 50 list in Africa. How they wan take do am?

firstly, i never wanted to go to unilag, in fact i dislike lagos as a city. Secondly, if u call those guys i work with well grounded, then u really do not know the meaning of that word. Sorry for the generalisation, but the truth is there are significant number of unilag graduates where i work and they are not impressing anyone at all. However, grads from OAU, UI, UNIBEN AND EVEN UNIJOS ARE MILES AHEAD OF THEM. Sorry, just my candid observation. NB. Is an FG hospital we are talking about here, hence any incompetence cannot be hidden.

I must say it is always a good thing to classify institutions of higher learning in terms of merit and areas of expertise for information purposes.

However, it is quite unfortunate that you guys are just wasting your precious time over such issue, as there seems not to be any good university in Nigeria at the moment. The once good ones are living on past glories. You need to move out of that place, so as to be able to appreciate, what good education is all about.

Many Professors in many Universities are intellectually bankrupt and I wonder what their products would look like. Nothing but absolute failure. Exam leakages are on the highest level. Students are never ready to learn. Lecturers are clueless and bunch of idiots, who specialise in having affairs with anything in skirt.

Cultism has taken over and an average graduate is a potential armed robber in waiting after failing to secure a job that never existed. Very sad, the corrupt politicians have damaged everything relating to education.

I must confess the whole thing stinks and I am not proud of the situation at all. If you are presently a student, please be wise and think. Never allow anybody to destroy your future.

agreed uniport is not the best school, but truth is i dont regard unilag graduates that much. I mean these guys dont care about anything academic. All they do is club and are usuallly so materialistic. I dont care who did that rating, but for sure unilag isn't that a great school anymore. Am not hating, just stating it as it is. A lot of my colleagues just happened to be products of unilag. And these guys are not impressive at all. Saddest part is they dont seem to care at all. Why is every shock with this, is uniport not a good school, am proud to be a unique std frm a unique uniport, but uniport convocation has not been fixed
The above statement is not from a UP student, cause the convocation was on saturday, while UP may not be the best in Nigeria, it is a good school. I am proud to identify with uniport and I am sure other unique graduates will tell you that like any other uni in nigeria, there is the good, the bad and the ugly side. we are proud to say uniport as evolved positively over the years.

I am already believing your post (source) until I found UCH, Ibadan on that list. How did UCH, which is a college under UI, got on that list as an institution? My visit to URAP website shows that they rely on data from two sources viz: Google Scholar and Information Sciences Institute (ISI). The question now is: how many scientific work from Nigerian universities got captured by these two sources? How many universities in Nigeria maintains an excellent Open Courseware? Hence the Western domination of universities ranking.

Before you thank God that your uni came 2nd on that list, you may like to know that the data used for that ranking are collected in 2009.

I quite agree that 4ICU ranking is a joke because they rank universities based on website popularity. That is the only reason UNILORIN can be ranked first and will continue to hold that position for some years to come because UNILORIN maintains an up-to-date website with real-time updates. Memo from the Registrar's office find its way to the website immediately they are released. Prospective students wrote their Post-UTME and checked their result online the same day. Students who wrote exams will have their results online in few days (sometimes three days). The school is currently building its Open Courseware online. How many universities in Nigeria do the same?

URAP also failed the same test failed by 4ICU. URAP got its data from the website of the sources listed above and these data cannot be truly representative of what exist in countries like Nigeria where education is virtually delivered manually.

thank u very much i dont why some people ar so much jealous of unilag may b because they were not given admission wen they chose the school,concerning d aristo stuff and all other sort of rubbish things u find among some of d students it is due 2 d place where it is located.u guys know d way people in lagos use to do and u can also find some of all dis thing in yabatech.as u find some dullards in unilag u cn also see some brilliant ones.so therefore unilag is also a good school which also deserves been rated as d best uni in nigeria.
