Kenya Historian Professor Patrick Lumumba shares his thoughts on African unity, the visionary ideas and the consequences of disunity in this video, at a conference held in Ethiopia.

The video recording of his speech is over 55 minutes on African history, colonization and post-independence struggles.

His idea is a united pan-African nation which can rival the European union- with one army, one currency, and regional tribal governments united across Africa to promote the territorial integrity of Africa as an economic body and as a unified race.

He echoes the thoughts of Kwame Nkrumah, the late Ghanaian philosopher and president, who proposed the idea of a pan-African nation. This united African ideal was also referenced in Femi Kuti's 1990's hit song- Wonder.

With the ongoing quest for self determination in South Africa, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Morocco, the time has come for Africans to realize that correcting the vertical divisions instituted by Europeans during the colonial era is very important to prevent wars and carnage in the coming years.

Peace is essential for prosperity. Self-determination of African groups to control resources in their native lands is essential. A pan-African nation which allows individual nation states to thrive and which agitates for the rights of all African states must emerge.

A situation in which Africa reorganizes itself to build strength by focusing on the comparative advantage each tribal state confers within the framework of intra-continental trade and a bloc-approach when dealing with foreign nations from other continents.

Africa is still enslaved to France and England in different ways. Africans must as a matter of urgency define their destiny or watch wars and tribal conflicts which always arise as a result of resource control increase.

Exactly untill we do this Africa would never grow I mean real growth

Let every ethnic group in Africa control their land , resources and security ...the ones that are too small Marge with people that they are compatible with in terms that work for them and for a governing block

That what Nigeria needs that's the only way for growth
