Stop being stingy. .  They don't set it but are pretty much interested in it.
If you are earning about £30k(as nurse) per annum and you plan to marry if you save up you can afford it(This is just for a man earning normal income) but imagine if the man is born into a rich family-to depart with £16,000 is nothing.
I hope my own wedding sef surpass that amount.
