Slyvester Oromoniyi: Scan Showed Enlarged Liver But Parents stayed Home. Witness by Eketem: 6:18am On Jan 29, 2022
Witnesses from the family at the Coroner's inquest for the late Slyvester testified that though a scan carried out in Warri showed he had an enlarged liver and was referred to a General Hospital for treatment the family still took him home and treated him for Malaria.
The family also took him for prayers.

Slyvesters family lawyers also sought an indefinate adjournment to the case which was resisted by the other Lawyers and thrown out by the Magistrate.
Case continues next week .

Peter Odewo-Oritse, an operations manager at Ken Ben Nig. Ltd., a company in Warri, Delta State owned by the father of late Sylvester Oromoni, said the deceased was not taken to a hospital despite a scan confirming he had an inflated liver.
While testifying before Magistrate Mikail Kadiri during a coroner’s inquest into Oromoni’s death held at the Epe Magistrate Court, Lagos, Odewo-Oritse confirmed the Oromoni family had obtained a scan result from St Louis Hospital, Ekurede, Urhobo, Warri, Delta State, where it was discovered the boy suffered liver enlargement. He told the coroner “they took him home” and not to a hospital.

Responding from the witness box to questions asked by Akande, one of Lagos State Government’s lawyers, he said the test was conducted on November 27, 2021, but the family did not visit a hospital.
He told the court that Oromoni was being treated for malaria by the family, despite the boy complaining of “severe body pain”.
In an earlier statement taken by the police, Odewo-Oritse said Oromoni arrived in Warri on November 26, 2021, and on the instruction of one Dr. Aghogho Owhojedo, he was taken for a scan, but it was not until November 30, 2021 that the family took him to the doctor for treatment.

Oromoni, a 12-year-old student at Dowen College, Lekki, Lagos, passed away on the same day he was eventually taken to the hospital.
Earlier, FIJ reported that his guardian, Clifford Tejere, told the coroner that after picking up the boy from school, he did not take him to a hospital but attempted to play soccer on PlayStation 4 with him.
The coroner’s inquiry was ongoing as of press time.

The second witness to testify for the family of the late Sylvester Oromoni Jnr has told the Coroner, Magistrate Mikhail Kadiri sitting in Epe, Lagos who is investigating the controversial death that the 11-year old was treated for malaria at the Oromonis’family home in Warri, Delta State.
Counsel for the family, Andrew Efole led the witness, Peter Odeworitse in his evidence, which has already been documented as his Statement on Oath before the court

At the last sitting on January 21, the first witness, Clifford Tejire has said he went to the deceased’s school, Dowen College on November 23, 2021 to pick him up after he purportedly sustained injuries while playing football.
He also added that though Sylvester Jnr was in great pains and his condition worsened while he was in his care in Lagos, he wasn’t instructed by the parents to take the JSS 2 student to the hospital but to bring him over to Warri.

At the resumed hearing On Thursday, Peter Odeworitse, a family friend and the operations manager of a company, KenBen Nig Ltd owned by the deceased’s father, said upon their arrival in Warri on November 26, 2021, Mr Oromoni called the family’s doctor, Aghogho Owhojede to come and attend to his son, and that he was treated for malaria for three days.
The witness added that a scan and an X-ray were conducted on him, based on the doctor’s instructions on November 29, which later revealed amongst other things that he had an enlarged liver.

They go to Church every Monday for prayers. I saw him in the car upon their return, still in pain, he wasn’t that fit to go to Church.”
The witness was also asked during further cross examination if he knew that the late pupil could have Been showing signs of hallucination or disorientation, which are reportedly among the symptoms of severe sepsis (a serious medical condition caused by the body’s response to an infection) found to have been one of the causes of his death, as stated in the result of the autopsy conducted on him in Lagos. He said he didn’t know about that.

Another counsel, Anthony Kpokpo representing Dowen College, cross examined the witness on the manner he extracted information from the deceased on the alleged torture by some senior students in his school.
“I walked up to him in the car and asked the driver to excuse us. Sylvester Jnr. said five senior students assaulted and tortured him but he only mentioned three names in full (names withheld). I went to tell his mother what he told me and she was shocked.”

But The witness told Lawyer for the Nigerian Bar Association, Bernard Onigah observing the proceedings that he didn’t tell the family doctor about the alleged torture. He also said he recorded a video of the young boy on his way to do the medical tests, as he had already confessed by then, and that it was the mother, Rosemary Oromoni that instructed him to send the video to his school in order to present the the body pains he was feeling.
Mr Odeworitse who said he was at the Oromonis’ Warri home when the deceased was carried into from Lagos , was asked by another counsel, Izuchukwu Ohajinwa, about the boy’s condition when he saw him.

BREAKING NEWS; SYLVESTER OROMONI'S FAMILY SEEKS FOR INQUEST TO BE ADJOURNED INDEFINITELY.

Counsel to the Oromoni's family Mr. Olawanle Taiwo from the firm of messrs Femi Falana SAN applied for the hearing to be adjourned indefinitely. The application was made on grounds that other parties to the proceedings have not filled their witness depositions.
Responding to the application

Mr. Anthony Kpokpo Counsel to Dowen College

I find the application by , Counsel to the Oromoni's family tragic and fatalistic , as there is a pending order of the court with respect to the issue of witness disposition.

Mrs. Ifeoma Esom
It is an attempt to stop the process since the truth is gradually coming out. Except Oromoni's family is now ready to tell the truth that my clients were framed up, then we will agree to their request

Mr. George A.A Counsel to Lagos State Government.
I find the Application to suspend the Coroner Proceedings indefinite loathsome. The court made a directive of the earth.. this as an indication of having gone livid and developed cold feet. The court should visit the erroneous application with punitive monetary sanctions.

Ayi-Ekpeyong Counsel to one of the accused student.

The application is not in the interest of Justice & the public. it is a ploy to stop the proceedings of the court. The application is unreasonable disrespectful and preposterous.

Eze Ajibo counsel to one of the accused student

Urged the court to discountance the application for adjournment indefinitely. He told the court that we are in a voyage of discovering the truth which will set all the party concerned free.

Mr. Akinnimi Olumide. Counsel to one of the accused Student

The process to unmask the truth has been set in motion and a lot of energy has been dissipated.
The eyes of the world is focused on this inquisition and the world is waiting for the out come so time is of the essence.

Responding to the Application The Coroner Magistrate Mikail Kadiri stated that the application is vexatious as the court had ruled on the matter giving parties the 1st of February, 2022 to file all witness depositions. The court ordered all parties to produce their witnesses in court on Monday 31st January 2022.

The court also notified parties that subsequent sitting will hold in Ikeja.

Abi the family was negligent and lied.
The only person who claimed Sylvester confessed to him is now saying he didn't record it and Slyvester didn't tell anybody else.
So far with autopsy no evidence of any bullying.

If this goes the way I see it going the family should be arrested and also sued for damages.

Witnesses from the family. That's the difference between social media and Court, you can say all sorts on social media but when it is court truth will be separated from lies.

The family should be after the truth and not just blaming anyone to absolve themselves of the guilt of his death.
Everyone should be after the truth, and not just run with stories
The first time I saw the picture of that ill child, the first thing that came out of my mouth was this child is septic. He should have been in ICU in the first place. These are the things the inquest will find out .
When did he fall sick?
When was he taken into the hospital ?
What tests did the hospital carry out when he was taken there?
Medical professionals will go through his hospital records and let the inquest know. They will compare this with post mortem findings to make a decision on what caused this child's death

Hian! Naija police said it is natural death

School too wants to claim the parents were negligent

I sha know say the boy's spirit will hunt all those responsible for his death. As for those parents who still left their children in the school....may God help you!

These witnesses are from the parents ohhh.
In a murder case " natural causes " means he wasnt directly murdered either by poison or external force.

The evidence coming from autopsy and witnesses is showing that the family lied. He had an ankle injury parents neglect to treat it well and that's what killed him. The school can't be blamed for that.

The school should sue the parents after this

What about the account of his classmate who witnessed the attack? Did the boy too lie?

Or the bruises on his body? Couldn't the injury on his knees be as a result of the narrated attack?

Somebody made up a WhatsApp chat and shared but because people wanted to believe it they did.

Anyway it is an opportunity for that classmate to go and give testimony at the Inquest now because Police interviewed all the classmates and they said they only saw him fall playing ball.

The person who posted that story from the " classmate" and the classmate can go and give testimony at the Inquest.

The parents think they can use emotions to arm twist the public. Instead of taking good care of their son in the hospital, they were preparing ground for sensational drama in social media. Condolences to the family, but they didn't act right
