President Buhari recently stated that his preferred candidate is a secret to him. Reason being that he does not want the person to be eliminated. This man us an unassuming charater who has been in Buhari's cabinet and close associate since the return of the 3rd republic. Towards 2023, Buhari and the northern elites are looking to see how to heal Nigeria and ensure her continued corporate existence. They believe that to achieve this, the APC need to have a Nigerian of Igbo extraction, who is an awoyed Nigerian and committed to the continued corporate existence of Nigeria. Just like the PDP deliberately handed power to SW through OBJ in 1999 to assuage SW grieviances for the Abiola's loss of 1993, Buhari and his northern elites are out to make the South East feel belonged in Nigerian narion. This is why APC will deny Tinubu and Osinbajo the 2023 ticket. The north want to be seen as EQUITABKE.

The candidate that Buhari has been hiding is his fellow political friend, companion and an unassuming compatriot, DR OGBONNAYA ONU. Dr Onu has been with Buhari for over 20 years. They were together in APP, ANPP, CPC and now APC. In fact it is Dr Onu initiared the formation of APC.

Below is Onu's resumè.

"Ogbonnaya Onu was born December 1, 1951, to the family of His Royal Highness, Late Eze David Aba Onu, the Eze Adu of Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area
of Ebonyi State in Nigeria.
Onu attended Izzi High School, Abakaliki, Ebonyi State where he obtained grade one with distinction in his West African School Certificate Examination. He also sat for the High School Examination at College of Immaculate Conception (C.I.C) Enugu, and obtained distinctions in Physics and Chemistry, graduating as the best overall student.
After his secondary education, Onu attended the University of Lagos where he graduated in the year 1976 with a first class honours degree in Chemical Engineering. He later obtained his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemical Engineering.
Thereafter, Onu proceeded to the University of California, Berkeley, California, USA where he obtained his post graduate degree in 1980 after doing an extensive work on coal liquefaction and production of synthetic fuels under mild conditions.
While at the University of California, Berkeley, Ogbonnaya Onu was the President of the African Students Union; Member of the Graduate Assembly of the University of California at Berkeley and also President of the Nigerian Association of Northern California, Inc.
Soon after his graduation from the University, Ogbonnaya Onu became a teacher at St. Augustine?s Seminary, Ezzamgbo, Ebonyi State

studies in the USA, he became a lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt. There, he became the pioneer Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering. He later served as the Acting Dean of the University?s Faculty of Engineering and was also elected as a Member of the Governing Council of the university.
Onu was one of the Directors of the Nigeria Cement Company, Nigercem, Nkalagu, Ebonyi State.

Political life:
In the year 1991, Ogbonnaya Onu contested for and won election as the first Governor of Abia State. He was the first Chairman, Conference of Nigerian elected Governors. Onu believes in Nigeria's unity and as the governor of Abia State, he abolished the State of Origin Syndrome and pioneered the appointment of non-indigenes of the State into top positions of responsibility in his Administration.
In the year 1999, Ogbonnaya Onu contested election for the position of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria under the umbrella of the All Peoples Party, APP, which was later known as the All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP.
In the year 2010, while still the National Chairman of the defunct ANPP, Ogbonnaya Onu initiated discussions with the leadership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria {ACN} on how the major opposition political parties could work together to effect change in the Nigerian polity. Later he also initiated the coming together of the National Chairmen of all major opposition political parties. These initiative of Ogbonnaya Onu finally resulted in the merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and some members of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), and the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP). Consequently, on July 31, 2013, All Progressives Congress (APC) was formed by the grand merger of the above mentioned political parties.
Ogbnnaya Onu was one of the presidential nominees for ministerial appointment under President Muhammadu Buhari.
Dr., Ogbonnaya Onu is the author of many books, including: A Footprint: Memoirs of a Chief Servant, Building a Modern Nigeria and ?Technology and National Development.

Nice article but point of correction, Dr. Onu was never in CPC with Buhari. He was a chieftain in ANPP until they joined the grand merger with ACN, CPC and part of APGA.

I am all for Amaechi. I just like this man. If Tinubu will be betrayed let Amaechi wear the crown. He seems to get along well with all tribes. Not a scheming Iboan looking for federal might to wrestle Lagos from Yoruba's
