Some Muslim parents on Thursday stormed Oyun Baptist High School, Ijagbo, in the Oyun Local Government Area of Kwara State to protest against the rejection of their wards in the school.

However, the protest which started as a peaceful one, took a violent turn when an unidentified man rushed to the school to inform other protesters of a machete cut.

This triggered an angry reaction from the protesting Muslim parents as they looked around for various weapons to defend themselves. However, police officers swiftly dispatched them.

NAN reports that the police fired warning shots into the air and also used teargas to dispatch the protesters in order to control the situation as unidentified persons from inside the Oyun Baptist High School, were seen throwing missiles at those outside the premises.

Meanwhile, several persons have sustained varying degrees of injury.

For instance, a man in his early 20s was seen being rushed to a nearby hospital for reportedly being shot at.

Normalcy was however restored by a combined team of police and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

The Public Relations Officer of the Kwara Police Command, Ajayi Okasanmi, said security personnel had been deployed to the scene to restore peace.

Okasanmi said normalcy has returned to the school and that security operatives would remain there until the area was safe for the residents.

The controversies surrounding the use of Hijab in schools have rocked Kwara State, particularly in schools which have identified as missionary schools.

On January 25, the government restated its policy and directed management of schools in the state to allow the use of Hijab by willing Muslims without forcing it on anyone or turning them back for using it.

Some Muslim parents and their wards were seen on some major streets of Ilorin on Wednesday protesting against the management of Oyun Baptist High School for turning back some students for wearing Hijab.

A government delegation, led by the Commissioner for Education, Hajia Sa’adatu Kawu, had twice visited the school to resolve the matter.

Another delegation led by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mohammed Saifudeen, also visited the town for the same reason on Thursday.

Why are these people carrying religion on their head? Why fight for God ?

Is it a must to send your kid to schools that don't tally with your faith? Does wearing hijab mean academic excellence?

Any Baptist school is by definition a Christian school, therefore wearing of masquerade costumes by women should naturally be prohibited.

Perhaps the parents who sent their children to an obviously Christian school should consider taking their children to a Muslim school so that peace can reign. Seeking to violently impose the attire of a non-Christian religion on a Christian school is both morally and constitutionally wrong.

Those rioters should kindly vote with their angry feet and phuck off to a school that conforms with their religious persuasion. If your family no be Christian family, no be by force to send ya pikin go Christian school. Send dem go Koranic school for where dem dey dress cover face how you like.

The only solution to this madness is very simply. The school authority should make it compulsory for morning devotions to be conducted in school with the teaching of the Bible and make mandatory too that some verses of the Bible be recited and memorised by all the students during devotions since the school is a missionary school and watch the hijab loving parents begin to withdraw their wards with immediate alarcrity

Your ignorance is legendary!
The school in question not a private christuan school but a school wholly owned and funded by the Kwara state government (grant aided schools) after the departure of missionaries who originally built the schools.
Now how can one religion (christianity)wants to impose its beliefs on others like muslims who are not Christians in a public school?
Haba!
Will Christians take that shit from other religion?
Now they're stockpiling weapons and missiles to kill peaceful muslims protesters! Imagine all sorts of things you will be reading by now if it was Muslims that fired shot and missile

The slave-imprisonment-ninja-hijab is an affront to womanhood as it seeks to deprive women of their very individuality and identity in a bid to effectively banish them from all public view and thus from society and thereby hold them hostage to the dictates of a medieval and frankly barbaric worldview.

As far as attempting to impose views on others is concerned, Islam is the undisputed world champion.

What you are trying to say is that since it is a public institution everyone should be allowed to dress however they like because of religious beliefs?

Are you saying children of native doctors and idol worshippers can appear in whatever attire their religion allows because the school is a public owned so there should be no rules and regulations? Una brain get wahala.

Are there no Muslim women in our military? They should also work with their religious attire, cursed people fighting for God.

Can muslm schools allow non-muslims without head coverings to enter their schools?
Hijab is not one of five pillars of islam. It is not necessary. Besides, hijab is not islamic thing. It is Arabic mode of dressing. Hijab predated islam.
