Very Recently a reporter from Nigeria's TVC News paid a visit to the Nigerian Air Force facility located at Maiduguri Airport, right at the front line of the nation's war on terror. A surprisingly detailed tour of various aircraft was permitted, and the reporter got to see up close the ground attack fighter jets and helicopters including the Alpha Jet, the new Super Tucano propeller-driven ground attack plane, and a few rather fearsome-looking Russian helicopters, all of which have been inflicting massive casualties on the terrorist virgin hunters in their hideouts all over northern Nigeria.

Before the armchair aviators and livingroom generals arrive to pour scorn on Nigeria's aircraft inventory, by comparing this lineup with those fielded by the US military, it is vital to recall that the primary role of ALL Nigeria's military aviation assets is to neutralize targets on the ground, rather than to engage enemy aircraft in the skies. For this reason, the comparatively slow propeller-driven Super Tucano planes, are in fact ideally suited for strafing and bombing virgin hunters that are observed scurrying about on the ground like so many cute little cockroaches. Without further ado, check out this video clip.

Yet the belligerents are killing military men with reckless abandon yet targeting the wrong places, people & population.

Very good at killing innocent people. Those fleets were bought to use in tracking cattle rustlers who hide in bushes, not foe any phantom terrorists who they don't want to list their sponsors publicly.

TVC can't deceive us if they where using them they won't be on available for show and display. They buy them for politics to say they are doing something.

"Fearsome looking Russian helicopters" but it's the military that are afraid of BH.

The Nigerian military has lost all the respect sane Nigerians had for it and it would take a lot more than this audio report to win it back.

hmmm..

As much as I like Babajide's punditry, there are things he is not suppose to be talking about on television regarding our security strategy.

You can't go on TV and be mentioning all the arsenal the Nigerian military are deploying against the enemies. What happened to the element of surprise?

Perhaps that is why countries like America will never trust us with their most advanced weaponry to the extent of selling such to us.

The OP's notion that the airforce's primary objective is neutralising ground targets is false.

The fact that for the past decade we have been engaged with only land forces doesnt take away the fact that we still need to deal with the threat of external forces.

We are surrounding by francophone countries who may be tempted to test our will if we don't have enough deterrents.

Haven't said all that, Kudos to the boys in the sky.

May your parachute always deploy grin

Alpha jet carries 36 bombs. 18 on each wing, while carrying 2 rockets, 1 on each wing as well as having rapid fire bullets as back up.

You have just described the horrific reality of war. Men and women die in battle, with many civilians caught up as casualties as well. Particularly gruesome fates await any combat aviators whose aircraft develop problems that necessitate crews having to bail out and descend by parachute over enemy territory.

Memories are still fresh of the Nigerian helicopter pilot that was captured and beheaded by terrorists while cameras rolled. Offering due respect and gratitude is, therefore, the very least any freedom and peace-loving citizen can do, in recognition of the supreme bravery that motivates these highly professional and heroic men and women in uniform.
