OMG ,nostalgic memories

Ralia, the sugar girl.

The writing was so superb, I can still literally smell the foul stench of the Old woman's cooking and I can picture her long dirty nails in my head too.

Is it not Ralia something?

This book that gave us nightmares as kids.

There's a new edition of Sugar Girl in bookstalls. Still the same story, same author and same publisher, but unfortunately all illustrations have been changed, including the one op posted here.

A young girl; Ralia who got missing while running an errand for her mum.

She had several adventures, met a witch, escaped from her, met a hunter, then a prince, until she was eventually reunited with her mum.

It was so much fun to read back then, I should probably look for the book again.

She was not wicked even though at that was the initial impression the story gave at first. she lost her husband and children and the village labelled her a witch. She had to flee from the village to start living in the bush where she found a lost Ralia and took her to her hut in the bush. Along the line, the prince's horse knocked down Ralia and he took her to the palace for treatment. The old woman wasn't aware of this and started looking for her. Word had gotten out that Ralia was living with the old woman in the bush and the youths rushed to her hut to fetch her from there, unfortunately the old woman could not produce Raliya and they automatically assumed that she had killed her like she killed her husband and children, they arrested her immediately and dragged her back to the village. Ralia got better, found out that her friend has is being detained because of her and she came forward to defend her and convince the villagers that she's not a witch.

Actually, the old woman wasn't a witch nor bad. The villagers conspired against her and exiled her, hence, reason she lived in the forest.

Ralia the sugar girl, omoh I used to get this goosebumps when reading the book when I was still a kid, I thought the stories was real same with Kouku Baboni,
good old days.
