A group, the Plateau Friends of Osinbajo, has called on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to contest for the Presidency in 2023.

The group made the call on Saturday in Jos in a communique at the end of a town hall meeting with the theme; ‘Beyond Partisan Politics: Towards A Working Nigeria’.

The communique signed by Mr Tony Ngwen, Convener, Plateau Friends of Osinbajo, said the call was in furtherance of the advocacy for good governance in Nigeria.

“The call on Prof. Yemi Osinbajo who is popularly known as the ‘’Star Boy’’ is predicated on his sterling leadership qualities.

“This is evidenced by his record of performance especially with the social intervention programmes which have impacted the lives of many Nigerians in tremendous proportions.

“He has demonstrated uncommon competence, character, courage, credibility and compassion in discharging his responsibilities and duties as Chairman of the National Economic Council.

“He is no doubt a bridge builder and an embodiment of national unity.

“From the foregoing, we are calling on Nigerians in the north, south, east and west and from all works of life to join the legion of progressives in our quest for a functional and effective presidency,” he said.

Prof Audu Gambo, Vice Chancellor, Karlkum University Vom, in an address commended the group for the constructive engagement towards shaping the choices of the people for 2023.
Gambo stated that leaders should not be chosen by partisan factor but the persons capacity and capability.

He said that Nigeria was left behind in the comity of developed nations because of bad leadership because leaders were chosen or elected based on political parties affiliation.

“For we have not joined the comity of developed nations is not because of lack of resources but lack of strategic and visionary leadership.

“Singapore for example, does not have the resources that we have but is one of the most developed countries in the world because of strategic leadership.

“The capacity, competence and promises of a leader should be the main consideration,” he stated.

He added that as Nigeria approaches another election year, voters should do critical background checks about candidates before supporting them.

According to him, only with thorough background checks that people with capacity for national transformation would be identified and be trusted with political power.
