Fear oyigbo, very wicked people, the last time I checked Belgium is not an oil-producing country, yet has a functional oil refinery. |

People need to be held accountable. Who was in charge of verifying the quality of fuel at the loading point? On arrival in Nigeria who was responsible for checking the quality?.... and at the fuel depots aren't they supposed to also check the fuel? How can there be sooo many slip ups? These responsible need to be in court and be open to pay for damages due to their negligence. Our problem is people.do what they want to without consequences. |

If not the incompetent and shallow minded leaders that we have in Nigeria I see no reason why we are still importing fuel. No future or immediate plan to move forward always moving in circles without end. |

Should I say I Curse the greedy fools and useless zombies In this God forsaken shiiiithole. Sigh. The Issue Is even the Zombies are not to be pitied and sided with because they are worst than their evil chief manipulators. I am Just "SAD" I came In this colour. I understand All other nations have their shortcomings but what Is happening In shiiiithole Is too saddening, degrading and disgraceful. Even If the "White Supremacist doesn't wants our progress, Should we In turn always assist them In achieving and maintaining their mission over us. Oo will help these lowlives? Every other Nations have now seen who and what we are!!! They see shiiiithole zombies as sub human, useless entities, no headway, demeaning and mediocre peeps, Sigh. It's very unfortunate to have anything to do with the black race "Most especially Shiiithole Zombies" It's depressing and very unfortunate..... |

A lot of people are here screaming and shouting...but no one is asking why 1.In the begining, we refined fuel here 2.In 1973, government brought in a subsidy...which meant that part of the profit that the industry got from selling petrol was offset, but at the end, refinereis were allowed to make a profit. 3.From 1988, Government did something nice...they forced the refinereis to sell fuel at a price lower than its cost of producing it. 4.Even then, at the end of the day, refineries did not make enough profit, the subsidy paid did not cover their losses, and by 2011, we had lost all our refining 5.So, we sent fuel abroad to refine...to countries like Belgium and Holland. But here is the thing Our crude is refined in substandard refinereis in Belgium and Holland...which is why the PMS sold here is very bad quality. Now, here is how much gasoline would cost refined in standard belgian and dutch refinereis Belgium: N809.59 Holland: N961 Now imagine the subsidy cost needed to keep it low......at N163. |

BigDawsNet: Because you guys would insist on buying fuel at N100 and below, even if it cost N300 to refine that liter of fuel That's why we lost our refineries, and why, unless your name is Dangote, and you have the collateral for loans for building the refinery, none of your billionaires, millionaires would be interested in building refinery. They don't want to lose money. A businessman does not run a charity. They too want to recoup their investment and make profit...not just so that they can build big mansion to house their fifth wife, or sidechick, but also to pay for expansion, maintenance, upgrades to the refinery, as well as staff welfare (the last is important, because no one is going to work in the oil industry for N20000 salary a month. ) We lost our 4 NNPC refinereis because we ran them at a loss in the name of subsidy Businessmen also don't like government setting their prices, because government won't let them make a profit. So, they keep away from refinereis. |

GemUnique: Because, you guys don't want to pay the high price for fuel to refine it at home. Niger republic has a single refinery. Fuel from that refinery is sold at N350. Yet because of that, they have enough profit to maintain that refinery, and export to Nigeria and everywhere else. We can refine fuel at home. But the thing is, we have to be willing to pay what the refiner, and the market wants us to pay. And if they decide that it costs N400 for them to earn profit, so be it. The profit can be invested in refining fuel to standard. If you want government to pay the price, and set subsidy, wake up to the fact that most of our subsidy money comes from crude oil revenue, which is not sufficent enough for our needs, because of our large populaiton and fluctuating oil prices. So, either tax everyone, or remove subsidy. To keep subsidy costs low, we refine our crude in substandard refinTereis in Belgium and Holland. |

verybadmouth: They would have been if we had run them profitably. Instead we ran them at a loss, meaning there wasn't enough money to keep them running well, especially for maintenance, and upgrades. That is why Dangote must be allowed to sell fuel at a high prices....because subsidy would make it difficult for him to earn the profit he needs to keep his refinery working well. |

wifeesnatcher: Well, it could be, but then there would be no money for salaries, projects, education, health (both last two are subsidsied), and so on. We take loans because crude oil prices since 2014, and even long before that, have been too low to fund our budget adequately. |
Re: FG Rejects Two Cargoes Of Adulterated Petrol Imported From Belgium by Nobody: 3:51pm On Feb 13, 2022 |
Donlamzy: Because government in the late 1980's decided to subsidse fuel ie....sell fuel below what it cost to produce it, and pay a subsidy that in theory covered the resulting losses, but in practice is inadequate, and in addition is decimated by corruption and stealing. |

BigDawsNet: Simple enough Allow the market to set the price of petrol Yes, we would spend high , but we would incentivise domestic refining eventually.NNPC might make enough of a profit to even take loans to repair and rebuild refinereis. |

Re: FG Rejects Two Cargoes Of Adulterated Petrol Imported From Belgium by Nobody: 3:59pm On Feb 13, 2022 |
georgeakins: Because by the time the refinery is finished, Lagosians and Nigerians would insist on buying fuel from the refinery at a very cheap price. Some would even insist that Lagos residents should buy fuel at N100 or less...some would even say it should be free.... Meaning lagos would have to pay a subsidy to prevent the refinery from collapsing...which might work, until the cost of production rises beyond what the subsidy can cover it. At the end, the refinery won't make enough of a profit, and would be shut down in ten years because it is old and decrepit, due to it not making enough to keep itself running. One Northern state once set up a chain of 'pay-less' stores, where everyone could 'pay-less' for everything. Eventually the thing collapsed. It was predictably losing money, and the money the state poured into it did not cover the losses (plus people were still patronizing the supposedly exploitative for profit provision stores it was supposed to compete against) If you were running a business, and you sold stuff below the cost of making said stuff, you would go broke. 1 Like |

BigDawsNet: Probably not possible. We all think that we must buy fuel cheap.... The thing is, as harsh as it sounds, Nigerians have to realize that profits are needed for any business to run. If a refinery is not making a profit, because we want to buy petrol at cheap prices, we would get substandard products. Thanks. 1 Like |
Re: FG Rejects Two Cargoes Of Adulterated Petrol Imported From Belgium by Nobody: 4:04pm On Feb 13, 2022 |
stevnwigw1: Actually, Belgium has functional standard refinereis, and refinereis where substandard Petrol is prodcued. We refine our crude in the substandard refinery simply because Nigerians want to buy fuel at N163 or less , and government does not want to spend something like N500 or more per liter subsidisng fuel, otherwise they would be running at a loss. Belgium refines fuel and sells it at N809 per liter (a bit is accounted for by taxes). Now, if we refined our crude in a standard Belgian refinery, landing cost would probably be at N800-1000 if not higher, meanwhile we want to sell fuel at N163, meaning government would be paying subsidy of over N1000 per liter, instead of the N120 per liter it is paying now. |
Re: FG Rejects Two Cargoes Of Adulterated Petrol Imported From Belgium by Nobody: 4:07pm On Feb 13, 2022 |
MansoryMX: 1.Even if they did that, the mini refineries still have to run at a profit, meaning that whatever they set as price has to be paid at the pump for them to run profitably. 2.Meaning, even with your solution, fuel won't cost less than N200 per liter. Man has to eat. |

tenpipsperday: Well, the pms from the mushroom refinereis is cleaner than the 'belgium' petrol, but the mushroom refinereis still 1.Produce substandard PMS, it just happens to be better than the belgium refinery product. 2.Have a negative impact on the environment while doing so. I suppose government can invest in equipping them with training and modern equipment...but that means the cost of production would shoot up, and at the end of the day, fuel from the mushroom refineres would still be above N300 per liter. All these problems exist because Nigerians do not want to pay high for standard fuel. We want cheap fuel. And it is cheap, but substandard fuel we are getting. |
