Taiwan is a different case entirely. US has the responsibility to defend Taiwan. Ukraine is not a NATO member and US has little need to intervene in Ukraine. Ukraine is just good for the US defence system and missile to be installed in Ukraine and for NATO to have a base which will be strategic to fight Russia militarily, if need be.

You know nothing about The alliance between The USSR and communist China that has led to China-Russia romance lately..
That's alliance has been solid for almost a century now. They fought together against the west in both Korea and Vietnam.. They vote along the same lines in the United Nations security council.. Very well managed relationship that has been controlled effectively for the mutual benefits of the two nations for decades. They're just trying to push it up another notch..

There are two things happening here
There is the Europe side (it does not want a conflict with Russia and the only arsenal it has its the NATO vehicleso it is obvious the eu will pump money to NATO to protect it's border...it has never bordered Putin)
The second side is the former Soviet states of which has come under pressure(Belarus and etal from Europe and Chinese inward).with this show of power by Putin and Russia using Ukraine as a scale goat.all those troublemakers in Belarus and et Al have literally vanished.this gives Putin firm grip on the states without under attention.

If China invades Taiwan this night, The US will NEVER intervene militarily. That's a no no. China is so close to Taiwan, that America will need to have a weapon big enough to deter china from thinking of an invasion. That obviously is either a nuke or chemical weapons. If the Americans don't have such in Taiwan already, it means they are not eager for a military confrontation Incase China invades, and The Taiwanese know..

But America can still punish China severely, that's economically, diplomatically and politically, through massive sanctions with her allies. That might effect Chinas rapid economic growth, thereby causing unpredictable reactions at home. The realization that such sanctions and gang up Will hurt, and the fact that the Taiwanese will put up a bloody resistance is the only reason the Chinese have not invaded that tiny swat of land. Not the fear of wars. Nobody fights a direct war with a nuclear power like China or the US or Russia!

SMH... even before China invade Taiwan, they will need to land at least 500,000 soldiers and that's a lot of people for an amphibious landing. Before they even land all those people,
at least 2 CSG from America will be in the Taiwan strait within a week. That's a lot of fire power.
Do you know what else they will come with?
Japan, South Korea and Australia.
China manage to damage US asset in the conflict, the US will immediately invoke Article 5 of NATO treaty and also drag India into the fight.

Do you see how many ways China will be fighting and they haven't even claim the island yet.
Sure they can ask Pakistan to distract India.
But to get Russia to come, that's a big task because on land, that cross is very difficult talkless of moving military equipment, on sea, Russian Navy don't have the power to face a combined force of the Royal Navy and American Navy.
And there's no pending war between Russia and other European countries that may be used as an alliance.

So yeah military action against Taiwan has far more implications.
