As a Nigerian writer/author who wants to publish books through Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing, you must write books that appeals to global audience and not local or Nigerian audience! This is because the target markets out there on Amazon are predominantly the Americans, Europeans, and Asians.

It will interest you to know that if you are currently working on any book which you intend to publish through Amazon KDP, it will be advisable to publish it early January or in February. It is good you start off your independent digital book publishing career exclusively with Amazon as it has the highest share of international Book market (about 60%). This gives you good visibility through its Kindle Select program and hence building up readers following.

Once you get to understand the game, you can then go wide with some of your books through other digital publishing platforms like Lulu and Draft2Digital

Here are some sure ways to enhance your independent publishing experience are:

1. Connecting with and sharing ideas with other authors to get to understand what they are doing right that you can learn from.

People normally ask questions on keywords when publishing their books. To get your keywords right, you need to have an understanding of search engine optimization.

Secondly, you need to put yourself in the place of a potential buyer and imagine what appropriate keywords you will used in searching for the book if you were searching for it on the Internet.

Also, search for best selling similar books to yours or other books in the same niche with yours. Read through their sales pitch as well as check out their categories as these will help you pick up some important keywords used by the authors.
