I don't think Nigeria as of today needs state police. The actions of our governors with their power drunk attitude will convince you. State police will be their tools in fighting their perceived opponents or enemies.

We keep talking this trash and same thing kept on repeating itself.... Why don't the give to for a change in restructuring and state police then, let's know what comes next.

Is there no way we can make it a regional police, instead of state ? At the least the governor will ur wield thier power over the police if they are not directly under them. There must be a way to decentralised the police system and at thesame time take the police out of the governors control .

Fulani controlled police how has it faired

U can have state police where every police go and serve in their state of origin or residents of more than 15 years and still controlled by the police commission that would be made up of president and governors ..that means police become independent

where is the resource control of the one Nigeria?? if Nigeria keeps taking a state resource and gives them 13% then it is also a matter of time before people will agitate for the ownership and control of resource. people can not keep taking over others resource using military and written amendment for too long. allow natural resource owner to tap their raw material and develop their region, other region can find an alternative economy for its development. oil producing regions are suffering untold hardship and environmental degradation while their suppose master up north keeps stealing their resource to enrich himself and the south remains her slave
why can't oil producing state refine her crude oil and develop its region. some of those region will have to wait for Maiduguri to develop before the govt can look at their region all because of federal might. who is supposed to pay who 13%?? these regions may only be tasked not taking over their resources. if people don't rise up to see these challenges then we still have a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world

The reason is clear. State Police will frustrate their Fulanization agenda. At least each state will have a security outfit to resist the invasion of the terrorist herdsmen.

So we should not develop because of fear of abuse?

Mention one country where a centralized police force is successful

Ogbeni can't have a functional state police without restructuring this British establishment called Nigeria. Even if you have state police now, directly or indirectly they'll be answerable to FG unless the constitution is properly addressed.

You're sounding like you dont want it.

You see why we're many nations in this country and we have different aspirations.
And thats the reason we should embrace separation, we cannot work like this.

Oyo state is bigger than atleast 15 European and Asian countries and they're highly prosperous. So why cant the 6 regions of Nigeria be countries so that those who want progress can pursue it.

This tower of Babel called Nigeria sucks!

The truth is even the federal Police is not structured properly based on Nigeria settings, the reason why there is high impunity from Police, intimidation and so on is because it is under the executive arm, all the security agencies aside from the military are supposed to be under the ministry for justice which the ministry is supposed to be headed by the supreme court separated from the office of the attorney general, as it stands all security agencies in Nigeria receive orders only from the president and reports only to the presidency which makes them witch hunt opponents at will, the FBI in America is under the justice department.

They know the power will be too much for the president to control all the security agencies directly including the military but in Nigeria all are under the executive...
Like what happened in osun statr, where aregbesola took with him police from abuja to intimidate the state police.
Is there anything we don't abuse in Nigeria?

Even the military is being abused.

Business men can order military to do some heinous jobs for them.

Will we because of abuses and misuses of a particular property just decide not to acquire or purchase that property?

Nigerians r so myopic, they use sentiments in concluding and putting lids to some issues.

If we r to move forward, there r things we should do today so we won't be fighting over these things tomorrow.

We need to devolve powers from the centre, we need state police domiciled under the ministry of justice, we need resource control, the court have delineate the office of Attorney General from the ministry of justice. So from next dispensation, we should have 2 different persons occupying these 2 offices.

We should be progressing for goodness sake not trying to use sentiments to draw us back or stagnate the country because some state wont be able to tar their roads cause of the terrain.

North is afraid that southern states may use state police to import arms and secede from Nigeria.

Northern Nigeria made Nigeria's Constitution through Northern military dictators, after Northern military dictators created too many states in the old Northern region to give excess representative powers to Fulani-led north.

Who expects any amendment to the vexed portions of the constitution to succeed?
Re: NASS Snubs Southern Governors, Excludes State Police From 68 Amendments by maak400: 11:05am On Feb 28, 2022
Foolish southern lawmakers and political class continue to look away while aboki Fulani sideline the southern region. The Fulanis know that state police will instantly stop the rampaging terrorists in the north from entering the south to kill and destroy. Greed, selfishness and cowardice is the problem of the south.

There is, and that's exactly how it works in America. In the USA, policing is a local matter, first and foremost, so we should really be talking about LGA police rather than state police. In addition, there's no reason why the police (whether local or state) needs to answer to an LGA chairman or a governor in the first place: they could be headed by a supervisory board made up of local civilians, all of whom are elected completely separately from LGA chairmen, representatives, governors etc. These board members could also then be subjected to recall, as could the local sheriff, ensuring that the local residents have a means of bringing them in line if they decide to forget who they really work for. The notion that non-federal police automatically means state police bossed around by governors is nothing but a delusion borne of a lack of imagination amongst most Nigerians.

Please, stop being mentally lazy. There is always a way around a problem, not by throwing everything away and running. This is only possible in a country where people don't have the habit of making things better as a way of life. The usual Nigerian way of seeing a problem and not fix it, and be expecting the problem to go away.
