Thirteen year old Abubakar Umar Danburam, fondly called Abba, of No 80, Tudun Wazirci in Kano city, attempted hanging himself after watching a Hausa movie, titled ‘Gabas da Yamma’ but was rescued and later revived by doctors. Abba was rushed to the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital shortly after he was rescued by family members and friends.He was said to be foaming and breathing heavily before being revived. The boy said he only attempted to imitate the actors in the movie in order to have a feel of what hanging means. He said he was only imitating his favorite film star, Ibrahim Maishunku. “I can only remember trying to mimic the scene I saw in the film and so I used a ladder to tie up my sister’s head tie to the fan in an empty room in the compound, hanged my neck and pushed aside the ladder. I tried to loosen the rope but it was actually very difficult. That is all I can remember. I only woke up to find myself on the hospital bed,” he said. Abba’s step mother, Asma’u Umar, was among those that rescued him. She told Daily Trust that they were only alerted when Abba’s brother peeped into the room where he was hanging and found that he was forming from the mouth and nose. . .
