So, if world war breaks out now how can people move about? How can soldiers power their machines?
Give these local bunkers license. That is the only sure hope in times of war. Cos Dangote refinery will surely be reduced to Rubbles. (Did you catch my double entendre? Only for smart educated minds)

Well, if the illegal bunkerers get a license, that means they would have to meet a lot of standards, which means spending money to upgrade their refineries to meet that standard, and maintain it

Which means fuel sold from there would still cost money.

Same for Dangote.

Nigeria is caused.

I wonder when the angels with whistle will blow it so we all can probably go give account of our foolishness here,

if there's anything like that though.

Nigeria is not cursed, what you are seeing is the end result of selling petrol below the cost of its production

The refineries break down because the profit is not there to fix and maintain them, then you resort to importing bad quality fuel to keep the prices down.

All this would be solved if we paid for fuel at the market price, not at N162 OR LESS.

U deh Abeokuta deh cap careless.

Ask the SS how those illegal fuel has destroyed their generators.

Nobody using illegal fuel could have a generator for 5months without calling a mechanic.

Okay, let's solve the problem by removing subsidy and letting the sector operate at a profit

(Then you people will do 'occupy Nigeria').

Government, since 1993 has been telling Nigerians the solution, but Nigerians have always said NO.

Personally, I don't like Buhari, and his predecessor GEJ, but they both brought subsidy removal, and they were both forced to backtrack because Nigerians always said NO. Same for many past governments, Abacha inclusive.

That's the thing, when you sell fuel at N162, after importing it at N232 (June 2021) and now 282 (3-4 weeks ago) , you won't make a profit, and you would be paying a subsidy to cover the loss.

When we had refinereies, we sold fuel at a cost below what it cost to make a liter and paid a subsidy to cover the resulting loss...and because the losses were rising due to rising cost of production, it became difficult to pay for subsides that would cover the loss, and the refinereis broke down. Plus sabotage and corruption came in.

Ye cannot tell anyone running a business to sell at a loss. People like to make money. And if you force them to sell at a loss, they will do sharp pracitices to make money and to stay financially afloat.

the really truth is actually at middle of Ur statement

that is (corruption) its has eaten deep into Nigeria that even if you go to heaven and bring angel to come and rule Nigeria, the angle would still get corrupt ....so you see no hope here.

the present administration promise to repair refinery's and even building new ones, where is the promise today?

.

Corruption is a symptom of the problem, not the whole.

Believe you me, if you were baking bread at N500 a loaf, and government told you to sell it at N100 a loaf, what cost you N500 to bake, how would you make profit to 1) fix your baking machines, 2) pay staff salaries 3) expand your baking business? Among other things. That;s what we have done for the oil sector. And we have been so doing it since the 1970's with this subsidy of a thing.

the present administration promise to repair refinery's and even building new ones, where is the promise today?

GEJ promised 3 new refineries (apart from Dangote). Where are they? Nowhere...because the three refineries were predicated on subsidy going away. Once subsidy was kept on after the protests of 2012, the promise died...because who wants to invest in refineries that won't make a profit because people want to buy cheap fuel...instead of fuel charged at a profit.

Same reason why Buhari cannot build new refineries. He probably would need counterpart investment, and if the fuel from the refineries is gonna be sold at a loss, why should he build new ones (They are renovating two of the old ones though, so wait and see).

It is not a matter of building new refineries, (we got 5-6 private ones, Dangote included, comming up) It is a matter of letting those refineries sell at a profit, so that they can keep themselves running well...and keeping a subsidy does not let that happen.

Niger Republic has a working 20000bpd refinery, and they supplu it from crude produced in their country. Fuel costs N350 there. They make a profit that they can use to keep the refinery running welll, plus the Chinese company that runs the refinery with them gets return on investment. Nigerians want cheap fuel at N40 per liter so no one, not even China, will coinvest with government on new refineries.

Finally subsidy money, if there had been no subsidy, would have been spent on refineries.(Or an equivalent amount...the government would save the equivalent amount with subsidy removal)
