Fake drug dealers flee as NAFDAC storms Imo

Some of the patient medicine dealers and other related drugs sellers in Imo State are now on the run following the arrival of National Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) officials in the state.



Sunday Tribune found out in the state capital, Owerri, that some merchants who were said to have been dealing in fake drugs removed their sign posts before taking to their heels on learning that the agency had come to town.


Investigation carried out by Sunday Tribune in Owerri and its environs revealed that in some pharmaceutical stores, some of the drugs on the shelf which were said to have expired were sorted out and disposed off.


Speaking with Sunday Tribune in Owerri, the director of NAFDAC, Dr. Paul Ohrii, said his officials were in the state to have a stakeholders meeting.


According to him, the problem of fake drugs peddling in Nigeria had reduced up to five per cent.


He added that Onitsha, Lagos and Abuja were now free from fake drugs, due to the constant raid of the townships by the agency's workers.


Dr. Ohrii pointed out that Nigeria had made appreciable impact globally in the fight against fake drug dealers as the country ranked 19th position in the world among countries facing this menace.

Seems like the only place where one can find real potent drugs is Ekiti and Ondo states.

Why wont they flee?
