Videos of South African learners in school uniforms behaving strangely, some seen passed out on the school’s premises, have been shared on social media.

The footage looks like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie.

The spokesperson for the education department in the Limpopo province, Tidimalo Chuene, said they are aware of the videos. She added that the school in the province bordering Zimbabwe is temporarily closed while they investigate what could have caused the strange behavior amongst the learners.

LEARNERS STARTED ACTING STRANGE AFTER ARRIVING AT SCHOOL

“About 40 learners from the Makgofe Secondary School started displaying strange behavior on Thursday soon after they arrived at school.”

Chuene said the learners were from different grades and classes.

She said the behaviour shown by the learners does not resemble physical illness.

“We still don’t know exactly what it is or what caused it; however, we are very concerned and avoid speculating on the cause at the moment.

EXPERTS GATHERED TO INVESTIGATE THE MATTER

She furthermore said they are bringing on board additional experts to assist them in finding a solution to allow teaching to continue.
