About time. These politicians are crooks. After getting peoples mandates they switch parties just based on convenience and not based on what those who voted them in want.

Devil Umahi, Ayade, and Matawale deserve what is hitting them now.

Unfortunately PDP couldn't cite any section of the electoral act or Nigerian constitution that support its demand.

That judgement was procured and it will fail.

This is a welcome development. It will help to strengthen our democracy. The idea of using a political party for selfish reason and dumping same party after actualising your goal should be disregarded.
You're right. With the ruling, parties will have ideologies Either Left or Right like in saner clines and politicians will now remain to build their parties and not seeing them as vehicles to win elections

The law is pretty clear on this.
Elections are won by parties, not candidates.
If you must leave a party on whose platform you got elected, you must first relinquish your position.
You can't take one's party's mandate and gift it to another just like that.

If justice is allowed to run its course, Umahi et al are goners. The Appellate and Supreme courts can't rule otherwise on this.
Our polity must be sanitized.
Stop saying what you don't know. The Nigeria constitution is silence about moving from one party to another.

Politics is very deep...... Strong APC men don't want these men in APC. The way they come is the way they will go. Greediness make them to jump ship. Now buni is gone.

Saner clime indeed. Hilary Clinton was born Republican before she moved to Democratic.

Your saner clime Donald Trump moved from independent party to Democratic to Republiican party ,again to Democratic before he finally switched to Republiican party.

This is a case of biting the finger that feed you, such a greedy nonsense

The judgement will not stand. Why do I say so?

Nigerian constitution says that a governor or president can be removed on 3 grounds:

1. Impeachment

2. Resignation

3. Death.

Change of party was not mentioned not even in the electoral act.

But some half educated people are hailing a judgement that has no basis.

The judge didn't cite any section of Nigerian Constitution or Electoral Act or judicial precedent. Aren't you surprised?

No portion of the law to support the judgement.

NJC will deal with the judge.

I don't need to be told that the judgement was procured.

Nigerian politians have no idealogy, they don't stand for anything except thier selfish interest. I have never heard that a US democratic defected to the republican party. This will help checkmate them like you said and strengthen our democracy

Court sacks Ebonyi Lawmakers for defecting to the PDP.

Another one allows 9 Edo lawmakers who defected to the PDP to control the House

while

those APC Lawmakers who refused to defect to the PDP are not allowed into chambers.

Solve the equation yourself

Crisis (factionalization) is the only legally-valid ground for defection.
The question is: Was there any crisis in the PDP when Umahi defected?

.

Can you help this conversation by telling us the sections of the Electoral Act or Nigerian constitution you're relying on for your position?

You know the truth?

There's no basis for this judgement either in the Electoral Act or Nigerian constitution.

If you go back to the judgement, you will see that the judge didn't cite any section of Nigerian Constitution or Electoral Act or judicial precedent.

The next question is what is the basis or ground for this judgement?

Reason it out, leave emotions.

The judgement wouldn't stand.

Cross carpeting should be scrapped from our national politics

Cross carpeting is actually frowned at. And the law says to declare the seat vacant. But the executive has always found a way to tinker with the law in Liaison with dubious judiciary officers.

The law actually has a clause that hints that the seat should be declared vacant if there is no faction in the ruling party.

They claim there are factions in their party and that's the reason they cross carpet. The law should ideally be made to be clear. Though last week, the national assembly voted it down.

So, upon which law did the judge base his judgement?
