FRSC LAGOS SECTOR HOSTS 2ND EDITION OF WOMEN-IN-UNIFORM TO MARK 2022 INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

• 'Dare to be Different': Rear Admiral Hotonu Counsels Women-In-Uniform 

As part of the activities to mark the 2022 International Women's Day, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC Lagos Sector Command has held the annual Women-In-Uniform programme on Wednesday in Lagos.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP by the FRSC Lagos Deputy Route Commander, Jesutomipe Mala stated that, "To mark the 2022 United Nations International Women’s Day, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Lagos Sector Command held its annual Women-In-Uniform programme at Radisson Hotel GRA Ikeja Lagos on Wednesday, March 9, 2022."

According to Mala, "Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, Sector Commander, FRSC Lagos Sector Command and the chief host, was ably represented by Cyril Zango Mathew, Deputy Corps Commander, Operations Lagos Sector, in his welcome address noted that women are part of the pillar of any successful society.
He emphasised on the importance of empowering and including women in all spheres of affairs because the whole world will gain from such."

"Mrs. Folashade Jaji, Secretary to Lagos State Government, while addressing the participants, said, "Today's gathering presents to us another opportunity to celebrate women and to call on the Government at all levels as well as organization to implement policies that will correct the bias against women.”

The SSG who was represented by Mrs Omotayo Gbajabiamila-Olamond, Director, Admin and Human Resource of SSG Office, further stated that “Mr. Governor has also pledged that his administration will continue to stand by women to ensure fair representation at all levels of Government while the Speaker of the House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa alsoaffirmed that the House will continue to make laws that will benefit the women in the State.” 

She commended Emma Fekoya, Chairman, Women-In-Uniform and Assistant Corps Commander for the success of the first edition and the tenacity in preparing for this second edition.

Mrs. Jaji called for a fair representation of women In the improvement of the economic, social and cultural development of the nation.

Rear Admiral Itunu Hotonu (rtd), first female Rear Admiral, Nigerian Navy as well as Africa, and the guest speaker, on the theme of the 2022 UN International Women’s Day “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow” said “Women need to take their space, we should assimilate and live it that we may be different but we are equal hence we all have what we need to achieve our goals”. She admonished women not to be afraid of being different, Live a life of sacrifice, It is not enough to conquer the ground, having conquered, you must hold it”
Deputy Comptroller General Mulikat Lade Adegoke (rtd) of Nigerian Customs Service, encouraged women to get familiar with their organizations codes of conduct and conditions of service, establish and maintain cordial relationship with very senior colleagues, show empathy to fellow women and surround yourselves with team of researchers.

Mrs Grace Ikani, who stood in for Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, the Senior Pastor Trinity House Church, congratulated all women especially Women-In-Uniform for the 2022 UN International Women’s Day. He commended FRSC Lagos Sector Command for the great initiative and appreciated the Women-In- Uniform for holding the home front together.

Other guest at the event include CC Lagos Plant, CC Rahilia Koli represented by SRC Popoola; Dr. Fashina Abiodun, Lagos State Maternity Hospital Lagos Island; Pastor SEA Oludare of Christ Apostolic Church Yaba Assembly; Special Marshals, Road Safety Wives Association (ROSOWA), female officers from various military and paramilitary agencies.

The event also featured a health talk powered by Lagos State Ministry of Health on medical status of women in uniform and measures to be taken to ensure sound health during/after their service to the nation.

The Women-In-Uniform initiative was put together by FRSC, Lagos Command to acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of all the women working with different Military and Paramilitary organizations in Lagos, which include but not limited to Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Immigration, Customs, Fire Service, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority among others. The gallantry efforts of these women in keeping their home-front together while serving in different capacities in their various organizations cannot be over emphasized.
