A Ukrainian man on his morning stroll through a forest near his home stumbled upon an abandonned Russian tank, and is now the proud owner of the vehicle that launches missiles.



Throughout Russia's seemingly ill-fated insurgency into Ukraine they have faced many embarrassing losses and comical mishaps which included a farmer who stole one of their tanks.

Last week, a group of men in Kharkiv comandeered a tank and cheered and laughed as they rode the T-80BVM armoured battle vehicle across snow-covered fields.

Now, a man who was merely out on a morning stroll has reportedly laid claim to a Russian tank, worth £15.3 million.

Oryx, a Twitter page who have been covering the conflict, tweeted the news, saying: "This is Igor. Every morning Igor goes for a stroll through the nearby forest.

"Today, Igor found a Russian Army 9K330 Tor SAM system abandoned in the forest. Now Igor owns a $20 million SAM system. Congratulations Igor."

The Tor, originally developed by the Soviet Union, is an all-weather low to medium altitude, short-range surface-to-air missile system designed for destroying airplanes, helicopters, cruise missiles, precision guided munitions, unmanned aerial vehicles and short-range ballistic threats.

And for a while, before it was edited, Igor was listed under the 'current operators' category for the weapon on Wikipedia, alongside Russia, Ukraine, Algeria, Greece and other nations.


It may seem trivial for someone to just claim discarded weaponry but it is actually legally binding, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law allowing seizure of Russian property in Ukraine.

It allows Ukraine to confiscate property that belongs to the Russian Federation or its residents without any compensation. The parliament passed it on March 3, as reported by the Kyiv Independent.

The news follows a farmer stealing a tank from invading forces late last month.



A video of the incident was posted on Twitter by researcher Arslon Xudosi and re-tweeted by Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko.

The hilarious act was praised as one of the few humerous moments during Russia's horrific invasion of Ukraine.

Ms Vasylenko wrote: “A bit of humour before toughest talks: farmer steals tank.

“Scrap metal is very valuable in #Ukraine so people are very excited about all the money they can make by getting hold of enemy weapons #LoveUkraine.”

The tank is thought to be a Russian MT-LB, which is a Soviet-era multi-purpose fully amphibious auxiliary armoured tracked vehicle, which was introduced in the 1950s.

Ukraine’s National Agency for the Protection (NAPC) stated on its website that “property acquired in battle” tanks don't have to be declared as they are the result of "Russian aggression."

When the war is over, he will make good money from it.

The war came as a blessing in disguise for him.
