Enugu to establish specialist hospital for mother, child health care THE Enugu State government is set to solidify the successful introduction of free maternal health care services in the state, with the establishment of a specialist hospital for mother and child health care services. The state governor, Mr Sullivan Chime, who announced this during the signing of 2011 Programme Implementation Agreement (PIA) between the state government and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at the Government House, Enugu, said the establishment of the specialist hospital became necessary, because of the interest the government had in the welfare and health care of the vulnerable group in the state. He noted that most of the facilities and manpower needed for the implementation of the programmes were already on the ground, but regretted that the challenge facing the government now was the attitude of those it employed to execute the programme and offer the needed services to the people. Describing UNICEF as a willing partner with the state government in the implementation of its progra-mmes, the state governor appealed to the body to intensify efforts in assisting the administration in the execution of its health and education programmes. He lauded UNICEF for its special interest in the affairs of the state and expressed the hope that full implementation of the 2011 agreement would improve health care and standard of education in the state.
