LAGOS SET TO IMPLEMENT PUBLIC COMPLAINTS AND ANTI-CORRUPTION COMMISSION LAW

The war against corruption is set to get a big push in Lagos State, with the appointment of a chairman for the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, who signed the law setting up the Commission in April 2021, has appointed Hon. Justice Mojisola .A. Olatoregun (RTD) as Chairman. The appointment is pursuant to the power vested in Mr Governor under Section 3(3) of the Lagos State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Law, 2021.

Hon. Justice Olatoregun retired as an administrative Judge of the Federal High Court, Lagos Division after a tour of service in other divisions of the Federal High Court across the Federation. Hon. Justice Olatoregun(RTD) has been trained in international fraud and terrorism, cybercrime and electronic evidence, banking fraud, mediation and other courses. She is expected to bring her huge wealth of experience to bear on the job.

The Lagos State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission Law 2021 is a testimony to the State Government’s effort towards entrenching accountability in governance and checking malfeasance among officers entrusted with public resources. It is all part of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda - the six-pillar development plan of the Sanwo-Olu administration.

The Commission will be independent in its operations and functions while complementing the efforts of similar Agencies in the police and federal establishment.

The Anti-Corruption Commission Law is intended to deepen accountability and transparency in the expenditure of appropriated public funds. It is backed by the instrument of law to investigate and prosecute officials of the State Government and registered contractors indicted for economic crimes and financial misappropriation.

According to the Governor, the law will further boost confidence in the public to make complaints against public officials for investigation and prosecution.

Other  functions of the commission include :
.investigating any allegations of non-performance of any Government contract;
.making policies for appointments, promotion and discipline of its staff;
. investigating all financial crimes and anti-corruption cases with regards to the State Government;
. ensuring transparency in the management of Government resources; and
.confiscating proceeds of corruption and financial crime related offences or properties.
The Commission will engage in public enlightenment campaigns against corruption and financial malpractices.

Hon. Justice Olatoregun’s appointment reinforces the commitment of  Mr Governor to eradicating corruption in the public service.

Isn't it ironical that Lagos brought out anti corruption commission law when the state is a cesspool of corruption. Till date LASG cannot give people full breakdown of the state budget in compliance to FOI act of that in itself isn't corruption then what is it?

How much is budgeted for buying kerosene?
How many nursing mothers have been given 500 Naira this year?
How many wheelbarrows have been commissioned as empowerment?
You jump about condemning Lagos but in your region, your Governors are building prison for children. You guys should look inwards and use your flat heads to think for once.

Your bigotry knows no bounds, anyone that says the truth is attacked and must be Igbo. Why have you reduced yourself to a agent of hate and backwardness? I hope that in the years ahead, you will look back and be proud of the role you played in nation building.

Good development. Unfortunately it's audio commission. Tinupoo has held this state to ransome for many years now, collecting certain percentage of revenue. He decides who becomes who in the state. The markets is in his own very house, toll gates, motor parks etc are in his cupboard locked up with key. Is there any corruption higher than this that one man decides who gets what in a democratic and metropolitan city like Lagos. This same man wants to extend his evil grip to the Nigerian state even though he is not physically and mentally fit, yet some youths are here campaigning for this thief.
Although we have given them our words, Tinupoo can never be president.
Power must return to the people.
Know this and know peace.

We move.

What's the correlation of your response and what the person said ? Maybe he or she is in Lagos and pays taxes to the state which makes him or her even more qualified to complain about what he experiences in the state ...

The rulers have so much perfected and made the followers as slaves in this country with sentiments as religion, ethnicity or tribe.

Those cards the rulers play is what is making you refer to Eastern part of the country as if anyone that queries issues in Lagos is automatically an Igbo person or someone from the east ..

You guys should just stop these nonsense ....

Unless you were born yesterday , look around you and also gaze at the mirror to discern your true oppressors ...

Will it reduce the high rate of unemployment? The election is close, we can't be fooled by these tactics. So all these radio and TV programs that sometimes ask people about the situation of the country and a solution afterward is for fun huh?

This commission is to protect Govt officials from the Federal government anti corruption agencies like EFCC, ICPC etc

Imagine a state agency tasked with investigating corrupt activities of a governor and former governors.

I do not see how the state can stop Federal agencies from arresting its corrupt officials and investigating them. Cos this law specifically barred Federal agencies from investigating state govt officials. Stating that this new agency is the only body that can investigate lagos state officials

Those that are hailing this charade would not do so when all the 36 states enact such laws. In the end it is your common patrimony that would be squandered without consequences

Such a welcome development but its so unfortunate that 98 percent of those that implement the law are waiting to kill the law on arrival. This is not the first time.

Goodyness:

Your bigotry knows no bounds, anyone that says the truth is attacked and must be Igbo. Why have you reduced yourself to a agent of hate and backwardness? I hope that in the years ahead, you will look back and be proud of the role you played in nation building.

He’s right to reiterate to your likes about hyper-concerns on Lagos and SW politics and economics while blinded to the evils perpetrated in your homeland in SE. Igboland is full of ego-twisted leaders who are unaccountable to you and your generation; hence, you all become asylum seekers and opinionated in the people who don’t share borders with you.

While i’m not baffled about your opinions about Lagos and SW, there’s a larger desecration of your commonwealth in your Igbo homeland by your elected but unaccountable drunk leaders. Defending your tribes like Achebe and Biafra warlord is not hate or backwardness; it’s simply altruistic about his tribe, culture, and heritage. Sincerely, I hope that in years to come bearing in mind your ipobians postures and hatred that may likely lead to conflict with your host, the Yorubas. And your return to your abandoned region, you will look back and be proud of the role you played in not holding your Igbo leaders accountable as “developers” in other homelands.
