As the political year of 2023 approaches, questions have begun to pour like a broken tap on the minds of Akwa Ibomites about which candidates to represent them at the State, Federal and Senatorial levels.

In Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency for instance, the people  believe in zoning, equity, fairness and justice. This reason and many more are responsible for the peaceful co-existence between the two sister LGAs. Following a long-standing agreement which has seen Ikono and Ini take their turns respectively on an agreed two-term basis, Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency has had several illustrious sons and daughters contribute their quota in their different varying capacities to the growth of the area.

As 2023 stares at the people of Ikono/Ini, one would be forced to think about the next generation and who will best answer the clarion call as Emmanuel Ukpong-udo gets set to wind down his term, after completing the two terms accrued to Ikono LGA as agreed by the stakeholders of the two LGAs.

As a seasoned lecturer turned politician whose impact has been felt from the hinterlands to the cities and as one prepared for the job to serve her people in the hallowed chambers, Dr. Glory Edet’s expertise in churning tangible results in every responsibility given to her has given her an edge over others as the most qualified for the job.

She held sway as the helmsman of two demanding Ministries (Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare) with diligence, class and distinction leaving behind a multiplicity of success stories in her wake.

Those close to her can attest to the fact that she is a workaholic and one committed to every responsibility given to her. She is a leader who is not scared of storms, one who rides through storms and fear to achieve her goals while soaring like an eagle.

Dr. Edet as an appointtee has attracted jobs, human capital development packages, empowerment programmes to women, men, elders and youths of Ikono/Ini as well as scholarships to deserving students from Ini and Ikono. Road grading has been a recurring decimal in her programmes and she has donated more cars and buses to her constituents more than anyone else has ever done.

Furthermore, Dr Edet is known for her ability to speak out when necessary and for her good reputation, sound character and excellent attitude.

The development of character is the greatest necessity of life. As stated by Byron Pulsifer "Character is not something that you buy; it is not a commodity that can be bartered for; it is not a quality suited for only the rich and famous; rather, character is built upon the foundational commitment of love, honesty and compassion for others".

Who else is better qualified to represent the people of Ikono/Ini Federal Constituency from 2023 other than Glory Edet, Ph.D?
