Toktee:The foundation is weak, Jonathan Ebele no try @ all, we are suffering today because of his incompetence, name one foreign company that bought any of our electricity infrastructure? What does Funke Osibudu or Elumelu know about electricity? Even ESKOM South Africa that is looking for new frontiers for business opportunities was not involved? I hail President Buhari & Late Kyari for reaching out to Siemens GmbH & agreeing a 21st century agreement, not all that nonsense mr stealing of public funds is not corruption made on November 7th 2013. |

Toktee: The fact is that the companies that are running the electricity supply are running it like government ministries and parastatals where they think they can siphon operating capital and still wish everything to be just fine until they receive more awufu allocation from the oil proceeds. 2 Likes 1 Share |

buckeyemedia:Very well said. By selling PHCN to people who know nothing about Electricity, Jonathan laid a bad foundation for perpetual failure of electricity in Nigeria. No government can build anything meaningful on that bad foundation. The only way out is to allow states to generate, transmit and distribute electricity! 1 Like |

Richlycoated: Ghana is too far sef... Benin Republic has constant light Annoying part is their light passes through this area. There is a standing order in the TCN substation here not to touch their light, except in cases of major repairs. Once there is any little problem with light and shedding has to occur, na Ayobo them go shed first, before Alimosho... They'll rather shed Ikeja than touch the Benin Republic line I come dey wonder whether them do us this thing |

And some FOOL Christian will tell me there's a hell in the afterlife. FOOLS! I believe every single Nigeria poor must have committed a grave sin in their past life and this is their HELL. If you're in Nigeria and you're not filthy rich then you're in hell. There can never be anything worse than this. No light, raging heat, no easily available fuel. Why? What curse did our ancestors commit in the past that the gods have never forgiven us till this day. Why are we so imbecilic that we can't solve basic societal problems that we have to treat it like some impossible rocket science. Do we have such low IQ that no one can actually come up and effect a solution to our basic problems that other not so good countries have solved for the past 200 years. Bleep anyone that dares go to church tomorrow. All churches and mosques should be outlawed and the venues converted into factories. Africans, specifically Nigerians are CURSED!!! 1 Like |

Science, people, SCIENCE is the answer. Most of people do not understand how fvcked up Nigerian power grid is. Here, where I live, we produce well over 1kW per citizen at any given moment. As a result, households have 24/7 (but a real, not just promised one), industry relies on it, street lights work just fine, and you don' hear generator noise everywhere. Now look at Nigeria. When all power plants are in operation, Nigeria produces some 4500 MW of power TOTAL. That is 4,500,000 kW. Divide that with estimated population of 200 million. That gives you 0.0225 kW per each Nigerian citizen or about 44 times less than what it should be to really have 24/7/365 power supply. That means that for each existing power plant today, you need to build 43 new power plants. And that is just power plants. Add the power distribution grid to the calculation. That means that the capacity of high tension power lines, transformer stations and low-voltage grids should have to be AT LEAST doubled. Can Nigeria achieve that? Yes, certainly, but not in a year (as some thieving liar politicians promise). It can hardly be achieved in your or my lifetime even. Once again, it is not to build one or two more power plants. it is to build 43 or more power plants for each power plant in operation today. Any politician promising you 24/7 power supply within a year is a bloody liar, thief and, if he truly believes that is possible, one stupid m0therbleeper. |

It's a pity that we are still struggling with hydro which is an obsolete source of generating power why can't we use gas and nuclear to generate power, other African countries are enjoying uninterrupted power supply, we just have to measure up |

Economics, people, economics is the answer. Demand implies not only a willingness to purchase something, but also the ability to pay for it. By this definition, there is very little demand for electricity in Nigeria. Hold your horses, take a deep breath and read. Just try to understand. ISSUES 1. Energy/electricity is priced internationally in US dollars. Whenever the Naira falls in value, the price of electricity goes up. 2. Since 1999-date, the Naira has consistently falling in value but for a period during Olusegun Obasanjo’s tenure. This occurred because Obasanjo was adamant on saving for the rainy day so he saved money in our foreign reserves and also created an excess crude oil account. 3. Nigeria is currently broke with debts as opposed to savings so the Naira is constantly under pressure, so the cost of energy in Naira is constantly increasing. 4. Increasing the price of electricity and fuel indiscriminately would lead to civil unrest. 5. Increasing productivity through industrialization to booster our dollar earnings is a medium to long term solution. 6. Dangote’s refinery would help but if crude oil is sold to the refinery in Naira, Nigeria would lose some dollar earnings. It’s a give and take situation. 7. Finally , my solution, in actuality I have campaigned on this issue for the past 5 years now believing in this eventuality occurring; raise taxes on the rich 8. Raising taxes on vehicles, phones, clothes and houses would reduce the pressure on the Naira and boost our savings. Tax savings can be funneled into policies that reduce inequality enabling more Nigerians to purchase energy. Taxing the rich would also boost the value of the Naira as their ability to purchase dollar denominated goods declines. This means that the price of electricity will become stable. 9. the provision of electricity in Nigeria is indeed not rocket science, or even basic science. It is an economics problem. |
