It beats me how it's difficult for folks to grasp these simple choices.
A lot of folks saying Russia should stop the invasion of Ukraine as if the Westerners have guarantee they'll reverse the sanctions if he does. What then is his gain?
The only thing Putin can put forward to be taken seriously when negotiating the reverse of these crippling sanctions, is Ukraine itself. He must capture the most strategic parts of Ukraine if not the entire Ukraine and offer to withdraw in exchange for all or some of the Sanctions to be lifted.
Even if the West wants to be stubborn, out of the guilt they'd feel for failing the Ukrainians and likely pleas from the Ukrainians to give Putin what he wants so they can have their country released back to them, the Western leaders' hands would be very tight.
The more territories he claims, the more bargaining power he gets.
But if he fails to get enough territories to stand a chance to even bargain, he's done!
Matter of fact, even Crimea and Donbass will be reunited with Ukraine.

The US have too much of the wandering and loitering energy in them. They are trying to police the world in a manner that severs political and especially diplomatic ties. In a bid to keep peace more war fronts are opened. What a way to manage peace by show of force. Most definitely there would always be trouble but speeding it up and aggravating it is not a good choice. Flexing muscle is not the best choice either. No country is strong enough to stop a third world war. It can only be slowed down. US is not a saint and they must answer for their sins someday.
