In Nigeria, most students call what they intend to study - COURSE. This is totally wrong. For example, if you travel abroad to study and then you gets there. After getting there, you were being interviewed. Probably, they will ask you what degree you wants to study. However, they would not ask you the COURSE you wants to study but the DEGREE.
Which means there are certain choice of terms or words that we use here in our country which are not acceptable in developed countries.
If you visited countries like U.S and U.K they call it e.g The degree I'm currently studying in the college is Mechanical Engineering.
In a nutshell, they call what they study in school - a degree or discipline and not a course.

While courses are the areas of knowledge you studied and underwent to achieved your degree. or discipline.

Okay. But even your write-up (your grammatical expression, starting from the topic itself)... Do you think it's acceptable?
