LONDON, March 26 (Reuters) - British foreign minister Liz Truss says sanctions imposed on Russian individuals and companies could be lifted if Russia withdraws from Ukraine and commits to end aggression, the Telegraph newspaper reported on Saturday. Britain and other Western nations are using economic sanctions to cripple the Russian economy and punish President Vladimir Putin for invading Ukraine, seeking to press him to abandon what he calls a special military operation to demilitarise and "denazify" Ukraine. In an interview with the Telegraph, Truss held out the possibility the measures could end if Moscow changed course. "What we know is that Russia signed up to multiple agreements they simply don’t comply with. So there needs to be hard levers. Of course, sanctions are a hard lever," she said. "Those sanctions should only come off with a full ceasefire and withdrawal, but also commitments that there will be no further aggression. And also, there’s the opportunity to have snapback sanctions if there is further aggression in future. That is a real lever that I think can be used." The British government says it has so far imposed sanctions on banks with total assets of 500 billion pounds ($658.65 billion) and oligarchs and family members with a net worth of more than 150 billion pounds. Truss also suggested that the crisis had brought Britain and the European Union closer after the relationship became badly strained in the wake of Brexit. "One of the points I would make about this crisis is we have worked very, very closely with the European Union," she said. "Of course, there are some areas with which we have differences with the EU. But fundamentally, we are all democratic nations, we all believe in freedom and the right of people to select their own governments and we are very much united in the fight." https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/uk-says-russian-sanctions-could-be-lifted-with-ukraine-withdrawal-report-2022-03-26/ 1 Share

So fast London will loses a lot of money from Russia sanctions because those Arabs that take their money to UK are already looking elsewhere. UK inflation with high cost of gas and electricity bills is already cause people to called the UK government. Protest in Spain and Italy on Saturday as Italian farmers said they will lose 25% of production if they don’t get cheap diesel. Irish energy companies already announced 20% increased starting from April on gas and electricity bills and may increase by Winter. USA gas offered signed by EU is 3 times more expensive than Russia gas and reason Hungary government don’t want to be part of it. Turkey already said it again that they will not sanction Russia and instead start trading with Russia in both countries currency 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Pierocash: They have exhausted their leverages and now stylishly looking for how to get back on track since the sanctions is hitting them way too much than it's affecting Russia at the moment. Sanctions are like a kid's scratched fingermarks on the back if the country involved is one that is energy independent, agriculturally self-reliant, produces a good proportion of its own medicines and Health needs, and has advanced technology. Once you have these things, make the whole of Europe and America sanction you, it would just be like a scratch because you have the basic things that survives a country. America sanctioned Russian oil import, Biden is still looking for replacement and whom to cushion the rising cost of oil in his country while Russians are enjoying even lesser prices and India quickly stepped in to buy 6 million barrels in two purchases. Who lose? The EU have not even seen anything yet. Ordinary small rise in gas prices and protest are already hitting many European cities. To cushion the effect, some EU states governments are now paying people extra for the increase in gas prices. But how long can they sustain it given that it is also affecting other commodities now. Wait until their payment to Gazprom will be due, and they refused to pay in the Rubles as demanded by Putin. If Russia turns off the tap, na then you go see real riots and smashing of buildings in Europe. It would be worst than what happened in Khazastan early this year. They are sensing it already hence the tacit shift in policy. 7 Likes 2 Shares |
