Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disorder common in women of reproductive age. PCOS is a hormonal condition that women can get during their childbearing years. It can affect women’s ability to have a child, medically termed as fertility.

PCOS is also known as Hyperandrogenic anovulation (HA), or Stein-Leventhal syndrome.

It is named after the characteristic cysts which may be around the ovaries. Some women with PCOS have cysts on their ovaries. That is why it is called ‘polycystic.’ But, the name is misleading because many women with PCOS do not have cysts. A woman with PCOS disorder may experience irregular menstrual periods, heavy periods, excess hair, acne, pelvic pain, and difficulty getting pregnant, patches of thick and darker velvety skin.
