A student of the Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) and a businessman were on Monday, March 28, arraigned before a Yaba Chief Magistrate Court in Lagos for alleged forgery, Siggy reports.

The defendants, Yusuf Ayoola, 49, and Feyisara Otubambo, 20, are being tried for forging the school’s letterhead and the registrar’s signature, and are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of peace, and forgery.

In the court proceedings, it was revealed that Ayoola who owned a cybercafe located on the school premises was paid by Otubambo, a student who had just finished her diploma program and awaiting her certificate, to forge a “To Whom It May Concern” letter on her behalf, on December 11, 2021.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Linda Balogun, admitted the first defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum and granted the second defendant N200, 000 bail with one surety. She directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until April 13 for mention.

Okay. Leaders of tomorrow trying to succeed with corruption. I know delay by school management might have pushed the student into the crime. I also know the quest to earn enough for survival might have pushed the business center owner to do the forgery. But two or more wrongs cannot make a right.
