Sunday, July 3, 2011 10 Feared Killed As Tiv Farmers, Fulani Herdsmen Clash Again From Simeon Nwakaudu, Makurdi UDEI town, about 25 kilometres north of Makurdi, the Benue State capital, has been completely deserted following intense fighting between Tiv farmers and Fulani herdsmen. Ten persons were feared dead and hundreds displaced. advertisement Despite heavy security presence around the border communities of Benue and Nasarawa States, heavy fighting continued on Thursday night, with fighters on both sides operating in the forests around the area, killing and burning down homes. Near Udei, armed herdsmen and farmers continued their guerrilla fighting on Thursday evening, making it impossible for the soldiers drafted to the area to track them down. Residents of the area fled to camps in Daudu and to the homes of their relatives in Makurdi to escape the fighting. The clashes forced the Benue and Nasarawa State governments to set up a high powered joint committee yesterday, to stem the escalating violence in the border areas of the two states. Inauguration of the committee by Governors Gabriel Suswam of Benue State and Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa which took place at Yelwatta in Nasarawa State, was held amid very tight security mounted by close to 150 soldiers, mobile policemen, regular policemen and agents of the State Security Service (SSS). Governor Suswam regretted the killing of security personnel by the fighters and urged the joint committee to work hard to achieve lasting peace in the area. He said that the root cause of the crisis was the migration of some Fulani herdsmen who had clashed with Tiv farmers in Benue State, only to relocate to Nasarawa State to instigate violence against Tiv people. On his part, Nasarawa State Governor, Tanko Al-Makura urged all affected communities to eschew violence and give peace a chance. He said members of the joint committee were chosen based on their track records, to restore peace in the affected areas. Meanwhile, former Minority Whip of the Senate, Senator Daniel Saror has regretted the inability of the government and its agencies to bring the crisis under control, describing the failure of the government as disturbing. He called on the government to engage traditional institutions to resolve the crisis between the Tiv and Fulani. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=53132:-10-feared-killed-as-tiv-farmers-fulani-herdsmen-clash-againfrom-simeon-nwakaudu-makurdi-&catid=1:national&Itemid=559 |

@OP, your title is a tard insensitive. The Fulani herdsmen are no terrorists by nature, they just want to be left alone to continue to enjoy their way of life in peace. The government needs to step in an come up with a lasting solution to this proble. |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by aloyemeka2: 1:57am On Jul 05, 2011 |
ndu_chucks: Left alone to destroy Tiv farms with their cattles?. In Tiv land?. Same thing they did in Jos and Ekiti? |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by nduchucks: 2:06am On Jul 05, 2011 |
aloy-emeka: That would be a dumb thing to do na. You can't as a matter of policy allow anyone's farmland or livelihood to be destroyed at will. Tiv have encroached on the herdsmen's grazing land area which they've used for generations. On the other hand, the Tivs need to expand and grow their farming businesses. In the maintime, we have incompetent government officials who will not find a lasting solution to the problem. |

How does a nomadic tribe, people who travel light and have no vesting on the land hold off the land owners in a face off fight? It is incomprehensible! Have we acquired western education so we can loose our sense of being? How does a passerby come through your house, armed less than you, and hold you hostage? . . . In your own house! There is time for legal justice and there is time for jungle justice. This confrontation demands jungle justice. |

Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by nduchucks: 2:17am On Jul 05, 2011 |
Negro_Ntns: hehehe. The interesting thing about people who call for jungle justice like the poster of the above junk, is that they are incapable of hurting a fly much more participated in the kind of hand to hand combat they are recommending in Jungle Justice. I dey laugh. |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by NegroNtns(m): 2:17am On Jul 05, 2011 |
On the fulani nomad! Can you imagine if Tiv farmers go into Fulani cattle ranch and cause trouble. Wouldn't they want to know his busines there? , and deal wit his a.r.s.e? |

Negro_Ntns: Hmmph, Texas and New Mexico were captured by the same process. All through the middle East, there have been centuries of wars associated with land ownership and people taking other people's land by force. The Fulani conquered Yoruba in the hands of general good for nothing Afonja and captured nearly half of Kwara and Oyo and would have continued if the Yoruba didn't fight back vigorously and won most of their territories back again. The Fulani has a domineering culture and they are putting it into practice. Using jungle justice to confront them will lead to a full blown war; diplomacy seems to be the best approach here. |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by aljharem3: 2:22am On Jul 05, 2011 |
Negro_Ntns: so fulanis have every right to do jungle justics on igbos and yorubas in the north because they are in there land beune state has always had fulani indigenes in them so because the tiv are the majority does not mean they are not indigenous fulanis there |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by NegroNtns(m): 2:33am On Jul 05, 2011 |
Aloy and Alhaji, Good points! To Aloy's point, when confronted with periodic assaults, how far do you take dplomacy before you fight back? To Alhaji's point, the author made it appear these fulanis were transient and not paermanently based on the land. |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by naijaking1: 2:38am On Jul 05, 2011 |
alj_harem: Oh, I forgot Markudi is as much a Fulani land as Jos, Kano, and Sokoto, I see. I guess these clashes with farmers are simple prelude to full scale Jos-type ethnic rioting No wonder, the whole Nigeria is working for Fulanis no matter wherever they are. |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by aloyemeka2: 2:39am On Jul 05, 2011 |
Negro_Ntns: As far as it can get. If jungle justice is a quick fix then South African Negroes would have fought apartheid with guns and machetes. |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by aljharem3: 2:39am On Jul 05, 2011 |
Negro_Ntns: that is why we need to be careful about all this media people fulani/hausa/kanuri are indigeous kaduna(north or south), abuja, nigeri, plateau, ebonyi, parts of kwara and kogi, edo, nasawarra and the core states so when the fulani fight back because they were being killed first or there cattles that they have breeded for generation are killed, they do it out of annoyance not because they want to kill or anything but the so called farm lands can not be seen, the middle belt iis an open field where u would just see some people claiming lands some of this fulanis great great grand father have been passing this route before the so called tivs, beroms and co started claiming this lands |

On another post few days ago, I started to formulate a devilish idea to post in response to namfav - who I believe is fulani. My sister watched the drama and sent me text. "Hey, in regard to retarded idea, no you will not"! That was the end of the drama. Lol! A distant parent was fulani and she took a high dosage of that dna in her blood. So I will be in trouble again if she sees this. But honestly, I'm tired of their nonsense believing they can cause trouble and no penalty. |

Fulani people should start buying grazing land in ebonyi, that will qualify them as land owners and rightful residents of the state. Right udezue? |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by udezue(m): 5:54am On Jul 05, 2011 |
NO NOT AT ALL. You can't do the same in their domain and be treated as rightful owners so they should simply not graze at all in Igbo land unless they are ready to pay taxes. We should encourage more Igbos to start buying lands in Ebonyi for commercial livestock and agriculture not invite a troublesome group to settle in our land. |

alj_harem: Fulanis are also indigenous to America. They were there way before the "native americans"(not acually natives but intruders of fulani land). In the 19th century they were used by the brits to raid remaining native american settlements/villages. After the job was done, they were sold to Arab traders. The arab traders introduced them to islam and converted them to muslims. The fulani were later freed and made their way down to africa from saudia arabia causing havic and making the natives into fulanis. The fulanis that settle in what is called nigeria today once own the whole land until of course, these sub-humans of sea origin finished their final stages of evolution and how out of the bight of Benin/Biafra sea and started attacking the fulanis. The fulanis had to retreat while these different but related sub-humans laid claim to various parts of fulani land. The Hausas and Kanuris are actual hybrid fulani.<---- There is the story, for anyone whoever wanted the lowdown. |

this is 1 war the tiv will never win, we have to live in peace with each other and stop fighting it won't help only helpess women, children, elders, disabled will suffer the media are making it difficult for everyone to understand the true picture, nigeria belongs to all nigerians, why should tribal lines restrict movement? you have to move where you can feed your family and survive |

The Fulani have no claim whatsoever to Benue land. The Tiv should defend their land and continue shedding Fulani blood. Anyway, they vastly outnumber the Fulani in Benue, and so will eventually prevail in a war of attrition so long as no third parties use the military or police to against them. |

These Fulani herdsmen sef! How the hell can these guys go from state to state fighting indigenes over their farm land. In my uni days in the east i remember a day i was travelling to umuahia, a herd of cows blocked the expressway and our driver jumped out of the car and shouted at the herders to get out of the way. Can you believe that the younger herder got angry and pulled out a dagger. we were shocked at the guy's effrontery . That was in the east O ! imagine somewhere very close to their homeland like benue |

ekt_bear: no one has declared a war on fulani and won, let us accept peace here ok benue doesn't belong to the tiv |
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Strike Again by ektbear: 6:57pm On Jul 05, 2011 |
alj_harem: Hehe, if you say so namfav: Indeed, Fulani martial prowess is legendary. That is why you are little better than slaves throughout the rest of west africa. Anyway, it appears that the Tiv are no fools. . . they know enough about what "peace" means in this case. If they have any sense in their heads, they'll crush you like bugs. |
