Earlier I had to 'hurry' to Abuja for something very important. Considering the hike in flight fares, I reasoned that the cost of a return ticket could take care of some other exigencies, and decided to go by road.

About 30km from BN Ceramic Industry in Ajakuta in Kogi, we saw a queue of vehicles parked by a small village and we had to join. We learned that there was a kidnapping operation in front, and while trying to question the intel, we noticed there was no vehicle coming from the opposite direction.

About 45 minutes later, we heard a gunshot followed by sporadic shootings and the Locals advised us to take cover as the kidnappers may be fleeing and can shoot on sight.

It turned out that an escort Hilux with armed police officers accompanying a Prado was passing and the armed officers were shooting to 'clear' the road.

As the Prado and Hilux drove pass our vehicles, the officers made gestures that the road was cleared, as well as drivers of other vehicles that followed from the opposite direction.

Less than a Kilometer from where we queued was an empty Sienna with the doors left open, and there was a lifeless body.

I already had a panic attack when I heard the gunshots, and up till now, I'm still thinking of the empty Sienna. What if the driver was a father who may never get home to his family? How about the others in the vehicle? Their families will probably wait in anxiety until the bandits call and demand for ransom. Some may make it out, some may not.

Probably if the 'big man' in a Prado with escort Hilux wasn't passing, we would have had to wait longer for a patrol team to show up. Or what if the bandits had decided to advance towards us in a middle of nowhere?

My beloved country is fast becoming the Somalia we used to hear of, and it is sad that in Nigeria, no one takes responsibility for anything. It is sad that instead if seeking solutions to the devastating insecurity in Kogi, someone like Governor Yahaya Bellow is defacing the entire state with Billboards of his Presidential aspiration. It's sad that in 2023, we may end up voting in another senile dullard. It is sad that we're almost helpless. I'm sad, I'm angry and worried if this is the country my children will come to grow in.

Insecurity and terrorism is becoming a normal thing in most states in the country.

We need state policing now more than ever.

This is what happens on most routes buy they go unreported. Early dis year on our way back from the village after the Xmas festivities. Somewhere along the route between Otukpa junction and Ajaokuta, we met vehicles parking by the side of the roads and oncoming trailers waving for us to turn. The stated "big boys" were operating ahead. It took some police excorts travelling with some private individuals to go ahead and clear the road with sporadic gunshots.

I never expected anything good from Buhari, the reason I never supported him. APC is a desperate party made of loosers from PDP

mine was in PH. I was kidnapped in egui in Eche,
River state on 29th of September last year. It was a terrible experience I never wish an enemy. I don't always like to talk about it because it was terrible. Rainfall would have killed me in the forest. The most anoying this is police reaction. Pls be security conscious now. No one is ready to protect you. Be your security I tell you there are many unreported case of kidnaping in this country

Life literally has little value in Nigeria. People lose in on a daily, and the rest continue as if nothing happened
