The national electricity grid collapsed again on Friday evening, making it the third time the grid had collapsed within the space of one month.

Some power distribution companies confirmed the development in separate messages on Friday evening.

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company stated that the collapse had resulted in power outage in its area of operation, which covered about five states.

In a tweet via its official Twitter handle, the AEDC said, “Please be informed that there has just been a national grid collapse causing an outage in our franchise areas.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and appeal that you bear with us while we await restoration from the TCN (Transmission Company of Nigeria). We regret all inconvenience caused.”

Also, Eko Electricity Distribution Company said the grid collapse affected its entire network.

“Good evening everyone. We regret to inform you that the current outage affecting our entire network is due to system collapse,” EKEDC stated.

It added, “TCN team is working to resolve it as soon as possible.

Sincere apologies for the inconveniences caused. Please, bear with us.”

Last month, Nigeria’s power grid collapsed twice and worsened the energy crisis nationwide, as Nigerians had to contend with fuel scarcity and power outages.

The collapse of the grid on Friday evening, again caused blackout across the country, as homes and businesses were without power to run their activities.

Nigeria cannot get even 5 hours of power supply per day while Sri Lanka is protesting occasional 10 hour loss of electricity. Chai, Nigeria !! How can anyone be proud of you? How can anyone support politicians especially the one that said 24-hour power supply ain’t rocket science. Chai

Nigeria is indeed a nation of darkness. How can a country develop when she cannot even fix her electricity supply problem? You need stable electricity to become an industrialized nation. China could not have gotten to where she is today if she had no power supply. Think about it.

I'd thought it was from the transformer. The grid is experiencing overload hence the collapsed.

There are lots of incompetent people in this government, so it goes beyond Fulani. When you have such people in government, they can only come out and speak English but achieve nothing afterwards. As a matter of fact, the only ministry that is actively doing something is the ministry of transportation.

Buhari is on an ego trip and compensated party people for helping win the presidential election after 3 unsuccessful attempts. If you put an engineer in the hospital, I don't know how you expect him to carry out a successful surgery. That's the mess Nigeria has found itself in.

Basic problem outlied below

Basically, the reason why we don't have power is because, as a nation, we don't pay enough for power (and no, I am not here to abuse anyone, or say that your paying for transformer or poles is irrelevant).

The way the system is set up, the DISCOS and GENCOS cannot make enough money, so at the end, they don't have enough cash to fix things.

That's why we have had nearly 200 grid collapses in the last 10 years.

But the thing is, when tarrif increases are suggested, we always end up with people saying that 'Nigerians are too poor to pay increased tarrifs'. Meanhwile, our revenue from oil is so low, that government has to borrow. And the power sector is so underfunded that it cannot pay for needed improvements

Then many people don't pay their bills, making those of us who actually pay suffer for nothing.

You can abuse me, call me names, but our power problem is a money problem. And you need money to fix things.

Either raise tarrifs to levels where the sector can be profitable, or we take more and more loans

The page below comes from the link below. I suggest we all read it.
