This is the map of Port Harcourt in 1915 showing the surrounding towns that would form it's metropolis. From the map, you can see that Port Harcourt was initially the area around diobu. Also You can see most of the towns written in the original names such as umu okoro, umu Igbo, Obigbo etc before they were criminally changed to 'Rumu' by a federally appointed military administrator of minority origin, in his 20s.

You can also see okrika is a remote settler island.

Importantly also, you can see 'Iguocha' written as the alternative name for port Harcourt.

History is bae, it was banned to keep young Igbo generation in the dark.

Please put source for your map so it can be moved to front page where Lagos-Ibadan historians aka hatetorians will come to wail their hearts out.

If Rivers State have been governed by reasonable people, PH should be giving Lagos a good run for her money by now.

Re: 1915 Plan Showing Map Of Port Harcourt by Rugaria: 8:58am On Apr 09, 2022
This is why I have always fought these very ignorant igbos who want igboland to be restricted to just the 5 eastern states as Gowon, Obasanjo and Buhari want it, because "they don't want to be insulted".Very shallow thinkers! Folks are too ignorant for their own good. I have always told them here that you can't reject your own because a war was fought and a vindictive federal Nigeria tried to rewrite history by kidnapping your own and foisting fake identities on them. Obviously, some over ambitious ijaws have been working with the federal government to wash off any sort of Igbo traces in the riverine areas and you can't just throw your hands in the air in frustrations and give up on your own! You have to fight back! It's not about Oil, it's about brotherhood...

This is also the reason why I believe that Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB have done a great deal of good for the igbos. No other Igbo personality of not has been consistently pushing for all these Igbo border towns carved out of Igbo land and given to different states. Inspite of the derision from both insiders and outsiders, he had been very firm in his belief and in his convictions! That's a rare mark of leadership there.. Young igbos need to be sat down and educated on some of these things. They seem to have dangerously bought into this fictitious One Nigeria narrative, that most of them don't even care to note that their socalled federal government at Abuja is actively selling them short on all fonts for parochial gains.

The idiats that allowed their heritage to be changed are the ones to blame and not federal government. Today, the same confused set of people are busy wearing ishi agu and red cap claiming to be the same Igbo they denied just because we lost a civil war.

They thought oil money and Igbo denial will make them rich and famous, but today they aren't any different than others.

Shame!!!

I have never seen such a useless diabolical country as Nigeria, so the names of the towns and cities were changed to deny their igbo origin and heritage.

I now see the genesis of the problem of this entity with their demonic supporters.

This is interesting to read! I have always believed people that claimed names were changed or altered in most parts of Rivers State didn't know what they were saying. I guess this settles it.

For me I'd say Igbos should allow Ikwere stew in their broth.
Nigeria will surely divide soon, when the Ijaws start panel-beating them again like they did in old Rivers state(b4 d creation of Bayelsa) they will beg to be Igbo again.

Don't blame them that much! A genocide was unleashed on these people and ofcourse on all igbos in the 60s.. Living at the fringes, they basically had to swallow lots of insults and taunts to survive. A deliberate policy of watering down the ethnic components of these areas was carried out by the federal government. Obasanjo was notorious for this with his Mamman Nasir boundary adjustment committee. Read up on that. Infact. From the way Obasanjo went about caving out oil rich Igbo villages and making them minorities in some of these states, one can argue that this was the main purpose of the coup that brought him and the same Murtala that nearly killed off all males at Asaba to power.

Overtime, most of these minority ethic groups, especially the ijaws, who got these towns for free, have infiltrated the cultures of these areas and are now trying to impose their identities. Ofcourse they're being deliberately enabled by the vicious powers at the center.. This is is happening when the Igbo mainland is at the receiving end of all sorts of political attacks from the center. We're finding it hard to effectively defend the endless political onslaughts directed at the South East, how much more defend the igbos in the south south? Obigbo for instance comes to mind. This means that as the bigger block, we are not in a position to help. .. These guys need understanding not anger. Keeping quiet was a survivalist tactic,.. they really had no alternatives at that point...

There weren't much difference between Lagos and P.H in the 1950's and 1960's. The city was then known as garden city because of its serenity and beauty. By then Igbos had started bringing investments and Igbo Union was headquartered there. Then after the war, they seized Igbo properties and began anti Igbo policy. That was the beginning of the city's downfall. Most of our investments that went to Lagos, Abuja and the rest would have gone to P.H.

If the 1960's momentum had been maintained, Lagos won't even be ahead of P.H today because being the base of the multi billion dollars oil industry would have neutralized Lagos advantage of being the capital. Today, instead of competing with Lagos, P H isn't much better than Owerri. In fact, aside the bridges and a couple of buildings like the secteriate and NDDC, there is nothing more to write home about.

Exactly leave ikwerre alone ..focus on rivers Igbos that identify with you ...obigbo , etche ,omuma , egebema ,ndoni ...let ekepeye and ikwerre continue to fool themselves ...even bonny and opobo let them keep denying their obigbo (ndoki ) brothers

Infact ohaneze should expell every ikwerre and ekepeye man from the organisation

I trust ijaws they would always tell you who u are

They are desperately praying for one Nigeria even more than Fulanis, you know why? They have seen the handwriting on the wall. They have succeeded in putting a wedge between them and Igbos, and their Ijaw neighbors are waiting for Nigeria to break so they could unleash mayhem on them. Even people like Wike will run away from P.H the day Nigeria breaks because that's the day Ijaws will invade P.H. We would rather partner those that have always been with us throughout history than these ones.

Stop making excuses for these people please! Which genocide was meted out to the Ikwerres because of their Igbo heritage? Can you name it? No Igbo tribe suffered the way Asaba people suffered! Their men were lined up and shot en mass! Their women raped! Even their non Igbo neighbors attacked them severally yet in all, they remained unwavering in defending their Igbo heritage! Most of the generals that fought for Biafra came from that axis! After the war, they have continued to identify with Igbos to the extent Asaba became a twin City with Onitsha!

An Igbo adage goes thus; Oke no n'ulo gwara oke no n'ohia ebe azu di na nkpo.

I have watched a BBC documentary where some Igbo speaking villages in Rivers State had their lands seized by these Ikwerres. I mean Igbo speaking indigenes of Rivers State just because they were exiled as refugees and these people told them to return to East Central state. I would rather fight for non Igbos like the Ibibio/Efik/Ejaghams rather than fight for these people if push comes to shove because they're worse than enemies.

You are very correct. It was the entertainment capital then. Rex Lawson, Nick mbaga, Harcourt white, Joe nez etc reign from there. It was the home of hospitality, industry, tourism and entertainment. Port Harcourt would have been at par with Lagos and even bigger if not for the wartime conspiracy and intimidation of the Igbo natives, who were made to believe that oil could make the city more prosperous than creativity and industry.
Today it's soots all the way.

You do have a point there..
But do remember that the federal authorities empowered the characters that are anti igbos in ikwerre land to the detriment of the pro Biafra characters..

Igbos are “separated from the sea by petty tribes all of which trace their origin to this great race”. The essence of this valuable explanation is to show what a great race the Igbo ethnic group is.

Historical documents are important. When igala, egbira, nupe and oworo were fighting over lokoja, Attach of igala went to national achieve and got historical documents which he used to convince the court to grant him lordship over the entire lokojo, up to korton karfe.

Nairaland is notoriously anti Igbo and of course d reason isn't far fetched.
I created a topic about d hypocrisy of d yorubas who will moan about Igbos everyday while hausa/Fulani keep killing them in organised violence in yoruba land like they did this last Monday when hausa/Fulani okada riders organised and attacked yorubas, stabbing a yoruba man to death.
Woke up to find d topic deleted.
But if it were an anti Igbo thread,d most they will do is not push it to front page but leave it on top the politics section.
Well,everybody de collect now
