Residents of Benin City, the Edo State capital, have commended Governor Godwin Obaseki for bringing world-class health care to their door-steps at no cost to them.

The free medical program organized by the Edo State Government in partnership with the Association of Nigerian Physicians in the Americas (ANPA) is delivering free treatment to residents suffering from conditions such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Fibroids, pediatric cases, mental health issues and those that need neurosurgery, dental care amongst other health challenges.

According to the Edo State Government, the program which was initially planned to cover three (3) primary health care centers in Oredo, Aruogba and Ugbor, has been extended to more centers including Iwogban, Ugbekun, Ewoyi in Esan North East, Ewohimi in Esan South East, Warake in Owan East and Jattu in Etsako West local government areas of the State.

A beneficiary of the program, Mrs. Eghe Agbonmwanre, applauded the Governor and confirmed that registration and treatments for various ailments are ongoing at the Oredo Primary Health Center on Sapele Road, in Benin City.

According to the beneficiary, the registration exercise enabled the organizers to screen the candidates and prepare them for surgeries, tests and scanning.

Other residents who participated in the registration process described the program as laudable and expressed their gratitude to Governor Obaseki and the physicians from overseas.

“We are so excited about this opportunity to be part of the free medical program; we want to thank Governor Obaseki for organizing this program for us. The Governor has shown he has a very kind heart for the common man.
“We are particularly excited about the plan to extend the free medical program to other parts of the State so that our people in villages can benefit from this program” some of the participants interviewed said.

Governor Obaseki’s commitment to revamping the health sector is part of his administration’s MEGA Agenda. The free medical program is a prelude to the telemedicine program that will also ensure that Edo people have access to world-class treatments available in the developed world.
