Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) yesterday arrested an American citizen with firearms at the Murtala Muhammed Airport (MMA), Lagos.

The male passenger, who arrived in the country aboard a United Airlines flight from Houston, United States at 10:10am, was said to have checked in the firearms.

He was also said to be in possession of two international passports: Nigerian and American.
A source told our correspondent that the American did not declare the firearms as stipulated in international laws on firearms carriage.Another source said the passenger had some documents from the U.S, which allowed him to carry firearms, but the authenticity of the papers could not be ascertained.

The source said: “Officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service intercepted the passenger with the firearms during screening. So far, he is undergoing scrutiny from the officials of the service and will be handed over to the relevant authorities after interrogation.

“We learnt that the passenger with dual citizenship has the approval of the US Government to carry firearms, but such should have been declared at the port of entry, which he didn’t do. However, we are yet to verify the documents he’s carrying.”...

This shouldn't be difficult to verify. A little more scrutiny of his purported authorization documents will put this to sleep quickly. Perhaps he brought it along for his personal security, and given the state of security in the country I cannot begrudge him. Otherwise let the law take its course.

Assassin checking his death weapon through official channels? How do some of you reason?

When illiterate UGM boys and Northern bandits are having weapons from Libya, Chad, Sudan, Somalia, Afghanistan etal delivered to their door then a US assassin will be exposed to official scrutiny at MMIA?

Exactly. Talk less of their armed forces personnel sanctioned to carry weapons they get official clearance for worldwide.

A friend of mine is in the US army and he has official clearance for his weapons he carries throughout the whole West Africa. The average Nigerian is not exposed at all.

No. It is likely he has clearance for a weapon per his position in the US Militrary, investigative or secret services.

You lot may think Nigeria is a joke but the reality is that you cannot take uncleared weapons through MMIA like that unless the office of NSA, DSS or DG immigration is in on it.

If you have a nefarious agenda then you simply enter Lagos and buy a powerful handgun 20 minutes after leaving the airport from Oshodi sef.

The airport security are fools!

When about 1000 raghead terrorists invaded the kaduna airport on okadas with an airplane on the runway, did they release any press statement?

Or a raghead director at the head of the airport security wants to score a foolish point against USA.

All your terrorists running wild around the country killing and maiming, what have you dobe about that!

The man is protecting himself, everyone should be given rights to bear arms in Nigeria for self protection afterall, the herdsmen all bear arms for self protection abi?

What kind of reasoning is this? Whatever "purported" authorization document from America have no validity in Nigeria.
So how will "scrutiny" of "American" documents put this to sleep
His reason for doing it is irrelevant

The issue is he IMPORTED A FIREARM into Nigeria through the Airport allegedly. American authorization does nott extend into Nigeria and is of no validity or relevance in Nigeria

The above and the comments demonstrate the power of social media.

If the title had been an Igbo/Yoruba man residing in the United States failed to declare weapons and ammo at lagos airport, the narratives would change….lines would be drawn.

I hope the name of this individual isn’t made public for the tribalists to salivate and feast on.

Gentleman, there are actually international bilateral agreements that allow certain individuals and institutions to carry weapons across borders, some of which agreements are treated as confidential or classified. That is what the gentleman is pleading.
Don't be too confident that such doesn't exist.

No matter how outlandish it may sound to you, it is a relatively common occurance. A little research will help you.

My point is reference his sources before appropriate action is taken against him. Peace.

The arrested dual citizen attempted to play fast and loose with the law by complying with the US legal requirement that firearms be declared at the airport check-in counter in the US while intending to keep silent at the Nigerian port of entry in the hopes that the firearm he duly declared in the USA would not be noticed by Nigerian airport security.

The gentleman forgot one critical factor, namely that any item of check-in luggage containing a declared firearm is labeled at the US airport of departure with a tag bearing a HUGE picture of a gun which simply cannot be missed at the airport of final destination. With his check-in baggage flagged in this very obvious manner, the traveler's fate was sealed even before he boarded the flight to Nigeria, where firearm regulations are very stringent, particularly when it comes to the importation of weapons without the necessary permits that are ONLY ever issued to licensed firearm importers, and NEVER to the general public.

Now, barring the traveler's ability to come up with a gigantic amount of cash to bribe law enforcement officials in Nigeria, a criminal court trial will be held where charges of illegal firearm importation will be filed, resulting in the imposition of some serious jail time at the discretion of the presiding judge.

Which one do they want us to believe now ? For contradictions to arise in such a short article shows that they just want to open office on the man's head
