gover-nors have resolved to pay
the N18,000 minimum wage.
A source at the meeting of the
governors, held in Ikeja, Lagos,
Wednesday, disclosed that the
governors resolved, after long
deliberations, that being people-
centred and labour-inclined
administrations, the governors
could not but pay the new
minimum wage.

Fashola of Lagos State, other
governors at the meeting were
Abiola Ajimobi, Oyo; Rauf
Aregbesola, Osun; Adams
Oshiomhole, Edo; and Ibikunle
Amosun, Ogun.
The source said that the decision
of the ACN governors to pay the
minimum wage was hinged their
belief in the National Minimum
Wage Act of 2010 which makes
the payment mandatory for the
states of the federation.

Media Hype!!!

Only 2 Weeks ago, it was reported that Amosun and Ajimobi called all stakeholders in their respective domain including the traditional rulers to report that they cannot pay the minimum wage. Now, after a meeting in Lagos, they can now pay!!!  

This is just another proof that ACN thrives on media popularity! Let us wait for them to begin to pay,

we might never get to know what was discussed at that meeting just as we might never be privy to the stategies that were decided upon to make the payments possible.also there might be some arguments or agreements they have resolved to put before GEJ.all the same,the fact that they have stated publicly that they will pay means that they have set wheels in motion to make it possible

Then the civil servants need to stop watching TV all day.

They need to be working minimum 40 hours a week. Send them out to do construction or something so we can get value for our money.

yea, that's my party and people, Yoruba's again, nice one to the hear, let see it work if they do, they have just shown that the west is capable of delivering this nation from*kurukere govt*come 2015, Govt is all about serving the people, i feel for other states governors,he who fails to plan plans to fail if the power that be refuse to move us forward this ACN will do,they have plan to succeed and move their people living standard to the higher status, God bless ACN.

There are ongoing talks regarding revising the current revenue allocation formula. The Government , if it accedes, may yet still help out burdened States . Even minus the Government 'pitching in' , good leaders can 'tweak the books' and cut cost (as is going on in the UK - one the richest Nation on Earth) to make money available for essential spendings. The likes of you can conclude that the ACN thrives on media popularity yet I doubt you have anything to say about how GEJ , and thus the PDP, is totally in support of maintaining one of the most unproductively expensive democracy on Earth!!!

I agree about fluidity in government! But, my understanding of simple english language on this is: that they will pay, this means that by end of July, civil servants in SW will be happy. It does not depend on GEJ or FG reconstructing the revenue formula or removing fuel subsidy. It means that they will PAY! So, by end of July, we will catch them again!!!

Did you read what Rep. Gbajamiala said recently? During the electioneering campaigns, none of the contesting governors complained that they will not pay and till date, the Assemblies of these states have not said anything, so, let them pay.

Thank God ACN governors will pay, so all workers come end of July, 2011, you will be happy

All these civil servants that are clamoring for an increase in their wages, i hope being paid would end the gossiping and foot-dragging they are known for? Because it makes no wasting scarce cash on lazy mor.ons who come to work late, gossip and go back home to sleep.

what do u expect when labour unionist like Oshiomole,veteran innovative Lawyer(SAN)like Fashola,Awolowo core lover like Fayemi,Industrialist minded with people at heart politician like Abiola and the Great die hard against injustice,agricultural collapse,corruption and youth unemployment in the person of Ogbeni Aregbeshola not forgeting the Jagaban that banned the Corrupt elements within PDP from enjoying business as usual.

When will some of you begin to show that Nigeria does not exist in a vacuum ? I.e when will some of you show that you are exposed to best standards, worldwide, that may aid our development in Africa while moving us away from the politics of of feudalism and rancor you pay homage to with what you write , for example "Come end of July, we will catch them again!"?

Should you , as a Nigerian focused on the alleviation of the unbearable suffering of our people, not hope that the ACN Governors will deliver on a laudable pledge? Did the EU let Ireland fail? Why do folks like you not understand that the SW voted in a way that shows we want to 'have each others back'? Do you know the fiscal deal thrashed out that preceded the announcement we read here? Or are you naive enough to not understand that we have some highly exposed administrators who wish to move towards the new-age interdependent models of societal evolution seen elsewhere?

Do you think everyone can be feudal like the myopic PDP who wish to fight everyone to a standstill because the welfare of the people is the least important consideration on their agenda? Please give the ACN the benefit of the doubt . They might actually be setting the precedence for proactive regional cooperation , leading to mutually dependent accelerated development, all Nigeria will laud in the future.
