A former Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, said Nigerians lost the presidential election in 2015 and not the Peoples Democratic Party.

Lamido, who featured on the current affairs program of Channels Television, Sunday Politics, said the current realities in the country since 2015 proved that Nigerians lost by voting for President Muhammadu Buhari and the All Progressives Congress.

When asked if the PDP now has the capacity to win election in 2023, having lost in 2015 and 2019, the ex-governor said, “There was a party called PDP which won election in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011 but lost in 2015. Therefore, Nigerians know the PDP very well. We didn’t lose the election in 2015 or 2019, Nigerians lost the elections; Nigerians lost, not us.

“See what we have today. See our situation. Look at our economy, look at security…there are a number if things…look at our common bonds and brothers and sisters.

“Look at the loss of confidence…the loss of trust and bond. I have been very honest, it was not PDP that lost, it was Nigerians that lost. If we lose again in 2023, it is Nigerians who lose, not PDP.”

Lamido added that the ongoing moves for a consensus presidential candidate for the PDP in the 2023 general elections, is not about the regions – North or South – but a party consensus.

“In PDP, whatever we do is purely for Nigerians, not for us because there are expectations from us in the PDP. People see the PDP as the only hope in Nigeria today,” he stated.

According to him, building a consensus is about trust among regions, geopolitical zones, religious and ethnic blocs in the country.

He pointed out that the next president of Nigeria must be somebody who can restore the trust between people of the different parts of the country.

He said, “Today before you do anything else, you need to restore that thing called trust between ourselves. Today in Nigeria, we don’t trust each other; we don’t believe in ourselves anymore. There are various cracks along with religion.

“When you talk about northerners, southerners, westerners, our communal bond is not there anymore. Our common bond is humanity. We are Nigerian people who are supposed to be there for each other.”

The truth and nothing but the truth!

In 2015, Tinubu and his urchins saw to it that Nigerians chose darkness over light.

And today they wanna reap from it but never.

Nigerians truly lost but that will be a child's play when compared to what we will face if we make same mistake in 2023

We have very short memory

How could we easily forget what lead to Nigerian youths shutting down the while country in a protest against bad governance and to everybody's surprise, the hiding of palliative by the current administration

All of a sudden, we have forgotten those who we fought against and are now supporting same people, campaigning for them to remain in power

How disappointed and irritated I always get when I see people campaigning for the likes of Atiku, Tinubu and Osinbajo who either took part in bringing this current government or being part of it

Nigerians lost but haven't learnt anything

APC and PMB has made even the worst of us motivational speaker and sadly there is glaring truth in this statement. How can a man PMB want something so bad and when he got it he messed it up so badly that everyone now believe that can fix Nigeria. May PMB never happen to any nation on earth. Amen

I told people this. I agree with you sir! Talibans took power through the ballot box. I blame Jonathan,he failed to protect this country from savages. Even if he wants to hand over to a northerner,it shouldn't be Buhari. Jonathan's weakness did a great de-service to Nigerians.

Exactly, that was when the real suffering started promax
Good, I found my way out of the country in 2016 coz it wasn't unbearable, some of us that work in private firm got our salary slashed.
Before the election, we shouted that Buhari failed before and he will fail again. They said, Buhari is the Messiah. Some called him, necessary evil

Yes, we are used to suffering but we don't know that the pain will be so excruciating this time. What is more heart wrenching is that we lost this match, not with a single own goal, but a brace against ourselves. ZONE Bs, do you guys agree with me?

Seriously, we shouldn't blame ourselves for voting APC cos PDP gave us every reason to kick them out. But we now know.....may God give us the grace to do the needful.

PDP didn't give anyone any reason. If u made the mistake in 2015, how did you make the mistake again in 2019? Was it PDP?

100 percent truth. Nigerians are the one suffering today. A dry cleaner who is one of my friends told me how he was living a better life under PDP administration. He said that in one day he makes money to buy a bag of rice. He told me how he would buy provisions at home that his kids conditions was superb then but not anymore. He can't afford those things anymore because he will have to work for weeks and it's still difficult as inflation as affected everything. Thousands of people share this same story. Nigerians if una like make una mumu this time.
I don't want Tinubu for just one thing. The word ambition that he used. Presidency is never an ambition but rather a leader is one who serves and makes the difference.
