There should be a stronger focus on encouraging students about the opportunities they have for a future career. Secondary school students should be provided detailed information about college, trade school, entry level careers, enterpreneurship, etc. They should be informed about financial aid, student loans, and scholarships; they should be hopeful. IF more students have hopes that they can succeed there would probably be more enthused, and more serious students roaming about school yards. My suggestion is: How about teaching them skills they can actually use in a future career. Sure the core courses are important: Math, English, Science, etc. But why dont kids get an opportunity to choose some courses that could prepare them for life in the real world?

Just a little guidance would be a great change in our Nigerian public schools.
