The pastor made a fool of himself. He knew very well that the deceased had little to no relationship with Jesus.

Why should masquerades turn up in his funeral in the first place?

I can't imagine myself challenging a masquerade just because I was invited to conduct someone's burial. You can hardly have God's backing in this kind of situation.

If the deceased wasn't one of them, they wouldn't show up. Masquerade is a cult and the dead was a member of the masquerade cult. It's that simple.
